Let's be honest here - if these 'cuts' were being put into place by the Tories, they'd be outrage on here.

Same as WFA.

Outrage....????

If the Tories had cut WFA, the benefits for so many ( malingerers ), over-riding planning councils, etc etc etc....the lefties on here would be smashing up the streets and creating anarchy.

But do carry on....

But they did that straight away, failing to protect the poorest pensioners even though they knew there were approximately 800,000 who should get the wfa, never mind those just a few pounds a week over the limit.
Agreed, it was poorly handled, using Pension Credit as an easy option. It should have been tapered like UC...

It's beginning to look that way.

Heaven knows what the alternatives are - clearly not Reform 😁

Reform are so very far from my "cup of tea" but could they be any worse than the complete shambles masquerading as a government at present ?

You sound like my mother in law, when she says ”we didn’t have any autistic / ADHD / dyslexic, etc. children when I was at school”…

It’s a shame also that you throw in words like handicap, normal and ill so readily and as apparent disparagement or insult - I thought those day were long gone!
I hope you told that was because they were all locked away in 'special schools'. I remember a school in Horsham that was just for autistic children, which was residential, in the late 60s. Out of sight out of mind.
Thatcher closed a lot of the homes, saying there would be Care in the Community, but it never arrived.

Absolutely yes.

I find it strange from my perspective that the people who voted for Labour and have spent the last 14 years slagging off what was the incumbent Government ( those wicked, wicked Tories , and thoroughly, apparently deserved ) and it appears to me....the present Government ( Labour ) are significantly worse....?

Given they want to emulate the chaos and destruction currently going on in the USA, support Vladimir Putin and want to dismantle the NHS, I’d say my answer is “Yes and it’s not remotely close”.

Is there chaos and destruction in the USA ..? I hope you are correct, but i have doubts on a long term basis.

I had some behaviour issues as a kid in the early 80’s.

Nothing too disruptive. I was just very withdrawn and would get quite animated if routine changed or someone I didn’t know tried to make friends for example.

My school’s solution was to place any kid with any slight physical or behavioural differences into a Portakabin at the far end of the playing fields, give us different break times and lunchtimes and not attempt to teach us anything. No sports days nor mixing with the “normals”.

Just sort of sat us in there and let us get on with it. Provided us with boxes of StickleBriks and Fuzzy Felts. Mad really!

No discernment or specialised plan for any of us.

Kid with a cleft palate, to the cabin!

Girl in calipers? In ya go!

Doesn’t play well with others? Into the cabin!

Out of sight, out of mind.

I sometimes take the Mickey about over-diagnosis but it’s better than the 1980’s One Flew Over The Cuckoos nest approach.

To anyone suggesting that depression & anxiety is some sort of 'blag' I don't think you have any idea how debilitating it can actually be. I've 'officially' studied it but I have read up on a lot 'off curriculum' & have been doing so for years. 2 people I know are seriously affected by it atm, One of them their job is seriously making them worse, the other one is getting help with their job. Neither of them would want to be on benefits they already have no sense of self worth & getting a pittance in financial support from the Government isn't going to make that any better.

I do hope that any of you that are getting confused about depression & anxiety never have to hear that someone you care about is actually in the 'planning' stages of ending their life. Not a 'I wish I was dead' remark, we're talking about actual planning. You can get back to me with your judgements about how debilitating depression can be when you've experienced the same fear & helplessness of hearing that. People with depression can be very good at hiding it, no one would know(work wise) that one of the people I know is in the planning stage.

Suicide is the biggest killer of men under 50, one of 'our parish' here took their own life just a week or so ago. 6 sessions of 'catch all' CBT is not good enough. PIP isn't an easy thing to get, someone suggested to one of my friends they should apply for it, my response was 'good luck with that'.

As always you may hear of the odd case of someone blagging but you won't hear of the stats of people on the MH waiting list or worse still the people that are actually being turned away from MH support as their conditions are 'too complicated'. If they don't consider you can be 'fixed' with 12 sessions of CBT then you're on your own. I'm seeing that with my own eyes.

Well I truly hope this Government plans to cutback some of the benefit structure afforded to people who rely on this money to get them by doesn’t cause and depression or anxiety although i fear it will.

The article and her thoughts are a bit more nuanced than what you have written. I get your point though. It seems, a bit like the PIP scoring system proposal, too many people have disabilities, so we now have to be more selective about which ones count, while at the same time, sadly, paying little regard to the sufferer, as there are just too many people to cater for!

These guys aren't quite so keen on her work...

I only posted very briefly, not intending to delve at depth. It is for anyone interested to form their own opinions. Naturally, there are those who agree and those that don’t. ‘‘Twas ever thus’, and I am sure that she knew that would be the case.
, Personally, I reckon she made some valid points that merit consideration by her fellow professionals, and that is what she intended.
