Maybe not. I actually knew someone who was given a car by the state (although this was 20-25 years ago).
I know someone who is in full employment and happy to travel on public transport and was given a car last year.

.

Yes, this is it. You need to have a serious level of mobility issues to get a vehicle. I’m not calling bullshit that it doesn’t happen (my father was seriously disabled with polio and had such a car), I’m calling bullshit on the specific case which was posted. It’s not a case of happy 21st here’s a car.
Depending on your condition, doesn't have to be a physical one, from experience yes it is.

It’s also worth noting that Motorbility is a self-funding charity. Even if someone does object to a specific case (I’d hope no one objects to the general principle of this organisation), no tax payer’s money is involved. So it’s not provided “by the state.”

The targeting by Labour on the poor, oap's and vunerable to get cuts has been truly shocking. Whether you like their politics or not their history was always based on supporting the people they are now stabbing in the back

And, as can be seen by some of the posts on this thread, managed to convince people that those on disability benefits are scroungers!!!

The only saving Grace, if there is one, is the Conservatives say Labour should have cut deeper...!

The new mantra is that mental health issues do no exist anymore and anyone with an issue is on the scrounge

Motobility.
Motability do not GIVE people cars. They are PAID for by using the mobility section of PIP or DLA. The scheme gives disabled people the option for trouble free driving, knowing they have the support of the charity behind it.

The recipient never OWNS the car, so they haven't been given anything, just the option to rent something that might make their lives easier...!

The problem is everyone appears to "know" someone who IS anecdotally playing the system, without actually KNOWING what their situation might be... Just gammon baiting which I thought was above Labour!

How many prosecutions has there been for fraudulent PIP claimants?
There are some, but if they can manage to get through a PIP assessment they are pretty convincing con artists. These are criminals and not disabled people, some of this discussion seems to mix this up (not you!). Too many genuine claimants are denied and put off going to appeal which generally takes a year, is a further complication to an already difficult life and they won't get backdated attendance allowance.

M Jnr has a 17 yr old acquaintance who hasn't been to school, college or work for 3 years. This lad is in receipt of £700 a month benefit as a result of a minor health condition that causes him no inconvenience other than needing to take some medicine.

The lad spends his days at the local pool hall and his current "plan" is to stay on benefits indefinitely, additionally being given a car by the state when he is 21.

That is a disgrace.
So, having read all the follow-up, do you agree, your post which (let's not forget is based on something which MIGHT happen in 4 years time), is total nonsense?

The correct answer is above yours, zero.

I‘ve even heard a ‘paramedic’ on LDC today, saying he was called out to an address, to take someone for a hospital appointment!
He said there was an Audi A4 convertible on the driveway.

Such a car is not part of the motability scheme.

The media is as much to blame for the misinformation as anyone, allowing lies to spread. People are so ready to believe there are scroungers stealing our money.

It’s all part of culture wars, making people believe that others are getting summat for nowt, from your hard earned cash.

In the meantime, politicians are raking it in (from all parties) whilst we’re bickering amongst ourselves.

Many years ago, my first job was working for an automotive manufacturer where part of my role was to visit our franchised dealers.

One day I was visiting a dealer in Liverpool where the two main types of customer where either (I) employees of our nearby car manufacturing plant who were entitled to a staff discount (known in the industry as ‘having a voucher’), or (2) people accessing a car via the Motability scheme.

I asked one of the salesman how he qualified customers so he could give them the best possible experience and his never-to-be-forgotten reply in broad Scouse was, “Well, you see, I usually like to let ‘em browse for a minute - then I go over and ask them if they’re a Voucher or a Limper.”

I am well aware of how motability works, my sister-in-law had one but the amount she gave up was nowhere near what it cost.
