2. [2:20pm] Independent analysts rubbish the idea that there’s been an encirclement
3. [2:49pm] White House clarifies that it was Witless who spoke to the Kremlin, not Trump

Any other president would have waited for the advice and analysis of his intelligence chiefs.

Trump prefers to rely on Witless, a property guy with zero diplomatic experience, and head straight to social media for another dose of attention. Neither bothered with a simple fact check, they just took Russia’s f***ing word for it.

Whatever decent folk remain in US intelligence & diplomatic circles must truly despair of these feckless morons.

Oh dear.

Times Radio are reporting that Witkoff was sent home unceremoniously from Moscow, possibly without seeing Putin.

I'm thinking that maybe the story of the encirclement of the Ukrainian troops was a Russian way of belittling/mocking Witkoff and therefore Trump.

I might be wrong of course, but Trump doesn't seem to be reading this at all well.
