Most comments about Moran on there seem to be fairly positive. He scored last night, but you can appreciate their ire as they threw away a two goal lead. The complaint seems to be that they don't have a decent defensive midfielder to play with him. Seems fair enough as we all know that he's an attacking midfielder and, without help, wouldn't be a go-to for doing the dirty work in the championship. From our point of view it's probably good that he's having to learn to do the different stuff, but it's easy for us as we don't have to put up with the results they're getting whilst players develop, or the manager decides to adapt his system.

At his age, it is all about gaining experience, not necessarily the performances. Last year Yasin Ayari hardly had a great loan spell, but has come back and become an important part of our squad.
Not many people were predicting that last May.
We don't know where we will be in terms of needing acting midfielders at the start of next season. Moran may be the one to come in if a few others depart.

And they’ve just sacked their latest manager after 3 months!

Joke of a club, get him out of there.
Why? He's getting game time and good experience. He's 21 now, and in his second season in The Championship. Long contract (until 2028 according to Transfermarkt) but decisions will need to be made this summer, as it doesn't look at present as if he's ready to break through with us.

Difficult to tell in so much that Ayari didn't get a look in and look how he has turned out.

Obviously the Ayari precedent means no one should be written off entirely after a bad loan or two but Moran’s season is shaping up to be a poor one.

For starters he’s clearly out of favor at Stoke, even as the threat of relegation to League One looms. He was getting consistent minutes all the way through the start of March but since March 8 he’s been on the pitch for only 57 minutes across two games. In Stoke’s nine games since March 12 he’s come off the bench only once.

His situation at Stoke seems to be affecting his prospects with the ROI too. He wasn’t initially called up by either the senior team or the U21s in March. While he ultimately ended up on the bench for the senior team’s games against Bulgaria he didn’t come on in either.

The Oatcake Message Board thread about Moran is scathing. They talk about him being not particularly fast, not artful enough for a No. 10, not good enough tackler to drop deeper. However, that environment and that squad is a tough place.

Indeed, in those 2 loans at Blackburn and then Stoke he's played under 6 different managers, 5 of them permanent.

According to Transfermarkt, for Blackburn in 23/24 he had 6 goals, 9 assists 5 yellow cards. Total mins = 2,592, so approx. 29 matches. That's a decent first season.

However, for Stoke in 24/25 it's 4 goals, 6 assists, 10 yellow cards in 2,592 mins, so also 29 matches. That's a lot of yellows, and things seem to have gone backwards.

I see Amario Cozier-Duberry has also fallen victim to the mid-season manager sacking and has hardly featured for Blackburn since Valerien Ismael took over in February having got a lot of game time under John Eustace. Ironically, it was Eustace who benched Moran after taking over at Blackburn last season.

AC-D has 1 goal, 0 assists in just 841 mins of football for Blackburn.

Yes you would have thought ACD would have done better, looked pretty lively in pre-season

I think he has been injured a lot hasn't he?
He was for a brief stretch from October to November but returned from injury to score his lone goal for Blackburn and was featuring in virtually every game until Ismael’s appointment. He’s been stuck on the bench ever since and wasn’t even in the last two matchday squads.

feel like it's the case for a fair few players that have been loaned out this season that it's been a poor fit at the club that we've sent them to. Don't think many players have got much out of their spells sadly

Perhaps we should be looking at a league lower for some of them. I definitely think Fergie should have gone to the Championship. Maybe ACD would have been better in League 1, Doyle has done OK there and Mansfield seem to like Vickers.

Can’t imagine Gordon Greer is particularly looking forward to his annual review (assuming these outgoing loans come under his remit).

Yes agreed. Seems on the face of it that the Premier League/Championship loans, eg the ones that in theory should be on the cusp on the first team have been mostly poor and the ones lower down or abroad have mostly done fairly well

Yes, the Championship loans in particular have been very disappointing. Most are getting less game time now than earlier in the season - even our England U21 GK has been dropped by Sheffield Wednesday - that may be because they've got a good young GK of their own they've decided to give game time to now that this season ain't going anywhere for them - but I'm not sure; his form seems to have taken a dip from last season's (and the season before) triumphs.

Lower down things are better - Offiah is a big favourite at Blackpool in division 1; Doyle is scoring freely for Croydon; Vickers is going well at Mansfield, and Barrington is getting more starts too, as is Jackson now he's switched clubs.
The overseas ones are doing pretty well too, on the whole.
