The FA cup away game at Sheffield felt like a great time for him to get some minutes when we had the game wrapped up in the 2nd half. When he was overlooked it did cross my mind that his time with us might come to an end in the summer sadly.

He's come back from 18 months of not playing any football at all. The idea of him getting back to his best in a few weeks of being fit is absolutely laughable. He's basically learning to play football again. 6-12 months time is probably the time to judge him.
Agree. Big pre-season for him though, as although I take your point in terms of being fully back to where he was, everyone else has gone up a notch, so there is some significant catching up.

Hoping he’ll get some opportunities if we do start look more like a mid-table finish.

Blimey what are we talking here 2 years out - 6 weeks to get back.

tough crowd.

That said the competition for his place in the side/on the bench is ever increasing.
He needs the 20 minute run arounds that can be afforded by a 4-0 score line and cup starts v 'lesser' opposition.

I understand why he turned down the loan move to Everton, but he needs to be on it in preseason, which would be easier with x amount of meaningful game time.

He started against Stoke and didn't have the best of games. We've barely seen him since and we've been told he was potentially off to Everton on loan. I don't know obviously but joining the dots would suggest that for whatever reason he isn't for RDZ.

I'm not sure I understand it.

The likelihood of more game time, the chance to get his career on track with huge matches coming up for them, the chance to make a point to the Poland national manager that he's fit, playing and contributing.

Here he's not getting on the pitch either when we're thrashing someone or being thrashed when we have 6 or 8 players injured. He would also have looked on as we made approaches for other midfielders in January.

My only theory is that he trusts us to manage his rehab better than a club with the pressure of a relegation dogfight.

I can see from the club point of view, they can see his contract is running down and wanted him in the shop window and are looking to get some money for him.

I don’t buy that at all.

He needs time to get up to full match fitness and learn De Zerbi ball. He injured his leg not his brain, he does not need to learn to play football again.

And as for 6-12 months, that’s nonsense. You are confusing injury recovery time with getting back to match fitness and mental sharpness. That should surely take the sort of time the pre-season programme takes, about 6-8 weeks.

And you're not considering the levels of trust Jakub has to put into his knee, his rehab, his training, his mental health, the opposition.

None of that happens over 6 weeks.

I think Moder has had enough time to get match for now. He is still getting very few minutes and is seemingly nowhere near threatening the starting lineup.

The conclusion must be that he doesn’t have the attributes RDZ requires. These might be pace and dribbling on the flanks or elite level passing (see Groß & Gilmour) in the centre.

A real shame but I notice that he was purchased as a central midfielder, a position that Potter underutilised him in too. I think he can do very well in the EPL but perhaps he needs a different sort of team to perform at his highest level in?
82 minutes is not enough time to get match fit after a catastrophic injury and almost 2 years out, during which we had a change of manager.

Agree he's not had enough time to get match fit after that long out.

But it is concerning that he's not getting on the pitch at all in the last few games. There have been opportunities. Now we're getting players, back the opportunities seem to be reducing

I'm not confusing anything. The idea that somebody should be getting back to the exact levels he was at before almost two years out in just a few weeks is completely ridiculous. He also needs to learn a completely new system and completely new way of playing. I don't see how anybody could seriously judge him on anything he does this season.

I’m in complete agreement with you, yet would still be happier if he was getting minutes off the bench. I won’t be writing him off though, I want to see how he does next pre-season and whether he’s getting any game time next season.

Exactly Jakub is currently in pre-pre season.

He came v Luton probably taking both Sheffield and palace out of the equation and he's not coming on v Spurs, for obvious reasons.

The only problem is those situations are going to still be in place until such time as we slip in obscurity and out of the cups.

I don't think it's a concern
Moder may not have been called upon in the last 3 games, but that doesn't mean he won't be.

OK. Of course I hope you're right.

I'm just getting, "RDZ doesn't fancy playing him. He won't be here next season" vibes about the whole situation. I may be off the mark

Personally, I doubt that would be the case.

Dahoud is the only person that I can think of who was in that position and he was given plenty of time prior to losing us a game with a moment of stupidity.

The CM role is so crucial to how we play, that players will have to prove they are beyond reproach before given a chance there.
Baleba is a lot further down the line and is still only given limited opportunities.

Pretty sure none of Moder's minutes have been at centre-mid, yet.
I think it would be harsh to reject his ability on that basis.

The Everton loan might have been an opportunity to show what he can do in his preferred position.

I thought the whole Everton loan thing was then trying it on, and we quickly told them to do one, not a proposal from our side ??

My guess is we would have offered him the opportunity, if he wanted it, as it was reported that the player had rejected the offer.
Again as the club can't guarantee the sort of minutes he might be looking for, it might be preferable for him to get more game time somewhere else to speed up his recovery.

I suspect he backs himself to prove himself useful, by the time the Europa League kicks in again

Remember last year, when we were saying similar about Gilmour - scarce playing time and rumours of him going out on loan last January, so still time for things to turn around.

Gilmour is a deep lying playmaker who is not quite as good a Mac Allister. With the World Champion gone, he has taken his opportunity very well.

I’m just not sure where Moder fits in. I wonder where his best position in Dezerbiball is?
