I should also add “…and are maybe lumbered with for seasons to come”.

I have been put off the winter window for life by the knobhead left back who Hughton brought in.
We have also signed the following players in January
  • Knockaert
  • Kayal
  • Mac Allister
  • Ferguson

We’re 7th now despite everything. With so many top players returning in the next few weeks saying ‘no chance’ is irrational. We have every chance.
I think the idea that we are suddenly back up to full strength in 2 weeks time is very optimistic.
We have been told that most of the players will be available by the end of February.
It will take time before they are all available for 90 minutes

I'd be surprised if we got anyone else in for the first 20 this window.
We're already in the situation where we'll have to leave one or two out of the Europa League squad.
Last night, the only non-regular u21s in the 20 were BBB and Peupion, without Dahoud in it.
And then we've got the following to come into the squad: Igor, Veltman, Mitoma, Adingra, Fati, Enciso, Barco. Potentially March before the end of the season too.
We'll need to leave SIX players out of each match day squad from those listed above or those that made the squad last night (EIGHT if you include BBB and Peupion).

This is where I’m at too. As I said in the main match thread I’m a bit worried by some of his recent interviews. Last night he said twice ‘Barco is not a winger’ which seemed to me like he’s asked for a winger and been told no because we’ve signed Barco. His contract extension remains unsigned. I don’t necessarily disagree with the club not to be held to ransom in January (although we do desperately need an athletic DM who is more developed than Baleba), but I think RDZ is frustrated that his own ambitions to finish top 4/7 are not, in his eyes, being met. I think there’s a good chance he moves on in the summer which would be a shame as a watching fan as his football is the best I’ve ever seen us play.

Sadly I think you have hit the nail on the head. This is exactly my feelings. Seemed very pissed off with the clubs lack of ambition and signings. Strange as TB said there was no ceiling a month ago. However I think TB and PB keep expecting RDZ to produce miracles on a shoestring and unless you invest and spend some money on oven ready players, then you've no chance of Top 4. I fully expect him to leave in the summer which we will regret big time. He is destined for the very Top but with a bit more compromise we could have him for at least a few more years yet

And ? We’ll still have a dozen games left after the end of Feb.

Just like Hinshelwood clearly isn't a PL player.
Rewind a month ago .... RDZs ambitions are top 4. He said if we sign first team ready players we could achieve that. If we didn't we are a top 10 club. The club and his ambitions don't align at this point. Maybe he feels he's already outgrown us.

I love the guy but I'm sure theres other top managers out there and bloom knows that too.

Fair comment regarding Knockaert and Kayal. But Ferguson and Mac Allister did not go straight into the first team and that's what is suggested we need.

I’m not sure we’ll buy anyone, but it’s certainly the case that this transfer window is bizarre - and different to any before with the way FFP is restricting so many club’s business. BHA are in a rather unique position, and I’d be surprised if Tony didn’t take advantage of it - if the right players are available. But, as we know, transfer windows are often like a game of poker. Things could happen on or around 30th/31st Jan…

...and Ale Mac Allister was carried in the WC and is now being carried by a table topping Liverpool team.

Very much this. A few new signings might be ok for the next 2-3 weeks (except they won’t be PL or De Zerbi ball ready anyway), but within a short space of time we’ll have a Forest-style bloated squad and having to piss off decent players by leaving them out. The over-analysis and conclusion-drawing of a few immediate post match comments following a (probably irritating) draw from a guy using his weak second language isn’t something overly useful imo.

Yes we do and we will need to be at full strength squad to take on - City/Liverpool/Arsenal/Villa/Chelsea/United/Newcastle in those 12 games.

The fact we will remain weak for our next 5 games featuring: Luton/Sheff Utd/Palace/Everton and just getting back up to speed for Forest/Fulham. will be a factor in our final position.
I agree we have every chance of fighting for a place in the top 7. But the odds are stacked against us still.

He is clearly unhappy. But he's toned it down now. Feels like he's resigned to the fact that the club can't match his ambitions. Bit of a shame. Hopefully he gives us a chance in the summer to add some more of the quality he wants. But I wouldn't be surprised if he leaves.

Unless he’s somewhere like Man City or Chelsea then he’d better get used to that. There aren’t that many clubs who can afford to just go out and buy what the manager wants. Look at Arsenal for example, they need a striker but with FFP probably can’t afford to get one.

Interesting what he was saying about Barco in that interview, sounded like he would join the squad rather than go out on loan. 'Not a winger', but in RDZ's plans?

Typical ayew back and olise probably back for the pikes. And we are still weakish for that game, which is a shame as I think we will struggle.
