So what is the great failure that CPFC fans are accusing of their owners?

Yes they're stagnant but they're safe in the PL which is an achievement in itself for clubs of our size. Hodgson and Parish aren't exactly inspiring but that's hardly a call for new ownership.

Is their situation just being highlighted to them by our comparative current spell of success?

I'm also aware of the sentiment amongst football fans that we were making a mistake getting rid of steady reliable Hughton. Would Palace be able to reproduce our rise under Potter/RDZ or would they just flop like Charlton post Curbishley?
They can't employ a progressive manager because they don't back him.
The moment it goes wrong they panic and rush for a safe port.

Basically they're whole remit is:-

'take the EPL money'

All that money does is line pockets, make 1 or 2 'stars' unfathomably wealthy and keep them ticking over.

In fairness, other than take the EPL money, what else is there for them to aspire to? I think they've probably hit their ceiling.

It has taken Tony Bloom's bravery and vision to implement the strategy that we have in place that should drive incremental improvement (within reason) year on year. I see none of that in the higher echelon's at most EPL clubs, let alone Palace!

What number are we on now in 11 seasons of PL football? I make it that Hodgson's successor will be their 10th PL manager(not including caretakers) as follows, but could have easily forgotten someone:

Holloway
Pullis
Colin
Pardew
Fat Sam
de Boer
Hodgson Mk1
Viera
Hodgson Mk2

Nothing says success and progression quite like having to have 10 managers in 11 seasons.
That run of appointments through to Fat Sam (I guess Hodgson’s two stints can be included) must be the most “impressive” list of totally unoriginal managerial appointments by any PL club, probably including the 90s when most managers were of a similar ilk of being British and playing regressive 4-4-2 football. Back then the average lifespan was probably more than a season and a half.

I wonder if Bloom would've been able to implement his long-term plan so effectively if we'd been promoted in 2013 instead of Palace? I suspect not. I don't even think we were quite ready to be promoted in 2016 and would probably have had a similar season to Middlesbrough if we had.

I thought all Roy was doing was keeping the seat warm until Paddy McCarthy learnt all there was to learn and then march the Always Ultras onto glory? I'm sure that was the master plan I saw written on the back of a fag packet.

But that's the point, if we can do it, surely it's possible for them. They just need to put a proper strategy into action.

yes but you need owners who's primary motivation isn't $$$. They're focused on immediate return and as long as they don't come close to going down (and if it looks like it just get big Sam in!) then why go to the bother of implementing a corporate structure and an aligned recruitment strategy?

Palace fans are masters at making shit banners aren't they. There was the 5-0 flag that quickly got rolled up as Wigan tucked away their fifth without reply a few years ago. Now there's this.

Anyone else looking forward to seeing their crappy "teachers and pupils" banner making an appearance and then hastily disappearing from view as one of our teenagers bangs in our sixth against them?

Weirdly, I think we had a real benefit in not starting our strategy in the Premier League because you're organically building upwards from Withdean, one step at a time. We could take more risks and make more mistakes (Burke, Hyypia) as we grew. We could (finally) build the Amex, expand it, build the training complex, enhance it etc etc

If Palace make a mistake in being bold (de Boer) then the price could be relegation and significant reduction in revenues so, rather than see it through and take the risk, they do what they always do and take Roy out of the care home for a few months.

Although being relegated from the Championship would have been bad for us, relegation from the PL for Palace could be crippling for decades

I’ll be gutted if they get Cooper. Their manager job really does need to go to Graham Potter to really add the required rivalry spice to the fixture.

Exactly. Palace are in a position that dozens of clubs would give their eye teeth for. Yeah, ok they're a bit 'stodgy' and they must HATE what we're doing, but historically they're performing well above their average, and this is by some distance (10th season) their longest spell in the top division. Their board/owners aren't the complete losers that some of their fans think they are.

I'm always reminded of Sheff Wed (a team who would swap with Palace in a heartbeat) when they sacked Trevor Francis. The chairman said: "Yes we're mid-table, but mid-table isn't good enough for Sheffield Wednesday." This was mid-table in the Premier League! How they'd love that now.

Palace just have to except that not everybody can be as dynamic, progressive, exciting and attractive as Brighton.

And not every team can finish top 10.

They would flop. They've tried it twice before. They don't have the nouse of Bloom, the setup, or the patience.

Ok, Palace are 14th….but when you look at the table, there are only really two teams that they could honestly say they “should” be above - Bournemouth and Fulham. And there’s an argument to say that normally Everton would be ahead of them (and surely will be soon, more points deductions notwithstanding).
So they are pretty much where a team of Palace’s size, standing, etc should aspire to. And I guess if they were playing decent, attacking football most at Selhurst would (or should) be happy.
The problem they have is not so much the league position, it’s the crap football - and the relative success of BHAFC.
