Given that you thought the comical attempt at the a back heal which ended up going the other way into the keeper's hands was a back pass, I would suggest your ref appraisal may also be the worst in the league. :ROFLMAO:
It was clearly a back pass, you are in a minority that think it wasn't. He put his arms out to 'shepherd' it back for the keeper to pick up!

Gillett was f***ing awful tonight.

I think you need to take a look at the replay my friend. Clearly not, both commentators agreed it wasn't, I think you are in a minority of one once everyone sees it.

I think you're giving the spurs player too much credit for his attempted back heel. when he realised it didn't go away from goal like he intended, he opened his arms as a communication to his keeper to get a wiggle on to collect it

You're absolutely on one.

That was probably the fifth or sixth worst decision he made today anyway.
If Schumacher had been Albion's keeper, and Battiston an opposing attacker, I'm convinced you would have said that it was a perfectly reasonable attempt to get the ball :ROFLMAO:

Gather you didn't see every 50/50 go their way, the corner given when Richarlison's shot hit the post, the inability to give the most obvious penalty you're likely to see in the first half. One for the lino on Spurs side, the ridiculously late flag against Joao Pedro towards the end of the first half which wasn't offside.

We shouldn't stop holding officials to account just because we won. Gillett is so far out of his depth.

Every 50/50. I didn't see that, but I do hear it a lot, from fans of every club in the league... I thought it was pretty even.

The corner given when Richarlison's shot hit the post.

I seem to remember an error like that.

The inability to give the most obvious penalty you're likely to see in the first half.

The DW one ? the ref may well have been unsighted which is one of the reasons why VAR is needed

Feels like refs should have the balls to make that call on their own or using the linos. VAR is too often being used as a safety net by officials IMO, and we know VAR are reluctant to 'undermine' the ref by effectively overruling their decisions.

I know it seems like it's 'blue and white specs' because they went in our favour, but the two offside calls against Richarlison- I think one went in and another was blown for before he could go on goal- were excellent shouts from the lino. Most would just wait for VAR to bail them out.

Use this same energy to criticise our inability to keep a clean sheet all season ?

All fine to pile in on the officials when we don't win, but they should be held equally to account even when we do. I thought Gillett was shit tonight. There were a couple of Spurs dives that he waved away, which some refs might not have done, but on the whole, I thought he was indecisive, easily swayed and bordering on biased.

Fair enough if you disagree, this is a discussion forum after all! Maybe I am just prejudiced against referees and he was fine today, who knows?

Absolutely horrific top 6 performance once again from a ‘referee’ - so clearly wanting Spurs to get something. Appalling.

Go on the clean sheet thread then - that ref was atrocious

Atrocious ? Not sure. We played into their hands with changing shape, subs at wrong time. Another stupid yellow from Dunk suspended for West Ham game screwing over his team mates like his silly petulant red card.

But yes the referee was terrible and we were hard done by.

Thought the linesman on the west side had a great game. He got every marginal left decision spot on tonight.

Agree. A truly awful performance. Totally inconsistent. Literally didn't give one decision for us in the first half - not one, missed the obvious penalty, somehow added 5 mins injury time in the first half, booked 2 of our players for not retreating but let theirs off. Since he came over I've found Gillet pretty awful especially when he's on VAR and today cemented that opinion. A word too for the West side lino who couldn't help himself flagging for fouls for them but not for us even when it was right in front of him - the same lino incidentally who magically spotted Mitoma's "handball" against Spurs from 50 yards away last season.

Fightingcock is attributing the loss to a ref biased against them and a thuggish Albion team kicking them from start to finish. Angie’s nice guy veil is slipping, with a dig that VAR didn’t react to one of our thugs potentially putting out one of their players.

"It's amazing that VAR picks up everything apart from a tackle that maybe puts out another of our players."
