[Football] "Embarrassing, it’s an absolute disgrace"

It wasn't dodgy.
They had a a camera angle nearly perfectly in line with the goal line, showing it was out.

Eventually the League and the clubs will effectively take the whip hand and changes will happen. They have a billion pound global product that is effectively being f***** from within by VAR.

If we all think VAR is flawed/corrupt what do the rest of the world think?

After listening to the Guardian Football Weekly podcast panel discussion I think I'm persuaded that Arteta and Arsenal have been a bit OTT about this.

All of that is good.

He's right, other managers and clubs that write statements should take note.

Could England abandon VAR? Would FIFA/UEFA allow it?

That would be magnificent.

It was a worthy idea, but the long stops in play are bloody awful, let alone the incompetence from the error-strewn idiots assessing incidents.

Yeah, ok, some decisions work in our favour and if they are very marginal, they could have gone either way without technology but when they are glaring errors that wouldn’t have been made if VAR hadn’t stepped in, or glaring errors by the ref and VAR didn’t step in, you have to ask, who is refereeing the game -VAR or the refs on the pitch - and sometimes you have to conclude both are incompetent at times, especially when lines are drawn in the wrong place or against the wrong player ffs - you have to wonder - I think all in all, the sport as a whole was better without VAR - I would rather our refs were better trained because this reliance on VAR is turning a lot of them into useless twats. At least without VAR, play doesn’t get held up for silly minutes and I could celebrate a goal that for all intents and purposes looks good without having to go into suspended animation while a silly prat in a dark room flaps around with his ruler drawing imaginary lines over the pitch I can see in front of me. Have we actually gone mad?

I emailed PBOBE after the disallowed goal at Palace. I asked why the EPL do not insist where the cameras are positioned pitch side and how many. To cut a long response short, he said that due to the difference in stadiums this can't happen. I didn't bother replying as this is bollocks. All the stadiums have pitch long stands. Cameras could and should be placed along the full length of the pitch at intervals that give the best view of the goal line and also perhaps ones at running along the touchline.

Today cameras are small and should be easy to install either on the roof (Bournemouth for example) or on the second tier of the stand. There's no reason there can't be 200 plus cameras along the stand. This would allow the computer to easily use the best placed camera to use when determining offsides.
Watching var trying to call the offsides last night was laughable- camera never actually in line with the offside call, and taking an age while zooming in/out/in/out on various players with the picture becoming very grainy/fuzzy every time it was zoomed in (and the zooming in didn't seem to help, either) ... so laughably basic - why on earth are we not at least using the automated var offside checks they seem to use abroad?! PL is the richest league in the world, isn't it!

Last night’s first half 54 minutes
Second half 57 minutes

Completely different game now as the Aussie says

Utter shambles
