The everyday event in question was a 17 year old boy stabbing to death a 15 year girl. Just reminding you because you seem to have completely forgotten. Until you know more about what happened you are talking garbage.
Indeed.

Possibly a random attack?

More likely some entitled little prick thinking that because a girl has rebuffed him he has the right to take a machete to her.

Difficult to map this to any narrative than the killer is a shit.

She was going out with him.
She wanted to finish it.
He offered her flowers.
She refused them.
He stabbed her.

Those are facts. A young man who couldn't handle rejection and a young girl lost her life because of his inability to handle real life.
I thought it was the girlfriends friend that got killed for sticking up for her or have I miss heard the news this morning?

I would find out why it happened before forming an opinion on that.
How? You’re not the police or the CPS. You’re not the accused lad’s solicitor. Only the perpetrator will ever know.

Let’s make it an easier question. How, in your opinion, should we stop teenage boys carrying knives?

Silly old bat

I haven't heard any updates this morning but this was on the BBC website.

Witnesses said there had been an argument with a boy who tried to give the girl or her friend flowers.

It is very distressing, and I feel for her family and friends.

Yea I think they said on Sky news this morning she was standing up for a friend and got stabbed.

What ever the details, this is a very sad storey and makes me worry for my younger kids.

There are kids as young as 11 carrying knifes in Eastbourne copying their older brothers.

What has happened to a simple straightner, then shaking hands and becoming friends.

“The severity of punishment, known as marginal deterrence, has no real deterrent effect, or the effect of reducing recidivism,”. If you're serious about tackling machete violence, rather than posturing, then you'd know that harsher deterrent sentences would do f*** all to actually tackle this problem.

Ban the sale of machete's online, or at least licence them. Invest in youth services in underprivileged areas, and do something about the misogynistic crap that's so easily accessible to impressionable young men.
Exactly - the idea that out of control youth calculate oh I’m going to get 25 years for this rather than 10-15 so I’d better not is incredibly ridiculous yet you hear it repeated so much.

Sadly plenty of knife tragedies in Sussex too

Cheshire Cat

The most curious thing..
Quote from BBC website - everything else is just speculation at present.

Witnesses said there had been an argument with a boy who tried to give the girl or her friend flowers.

That’s got nothing to do with what happened in Croydon though. You are just hiding behind it so you can talk about what you want to talk about. If you want to start a thread on teenagers carrying knives then start a thread on one rather than using one terrible incident to draw general and irrelevant conclusions about one particular incident in Croydon.

What a bizarrely obtuse post. If he doesn’t take a knife out with him he doesn’t kill her.

So very very sad. Another young life snubbed out by some random feral with an attitude and a footlong knife

To me it's all in the data. Look at who are likely to be the perpetrators of knife crime in terms of age / sex / ethnic group and apply the same in terms of the victims. So for example if the demographic indicates white males between the age of 16-25 are likely to be the victims and perpetrators of knife crime operate a vigorous stop and search policy between certain hours of this demographic, back it up with a campaign explaining why you are doing this and surely the inconvenience to anyone who falls into this category is worth it if it saves lives. Surely sensible Policing is all about targeting the most likely perpetrators of knife crime.

That’s more or less exactly what I was saying but got my head bitten off by superior intellects ( they think so anyway ! )

'Superior intellects' are all over this thread, however unlike them me and you appear to live in the real world and we suggest targeting the most likely perpetrators based on the data, which to me makes perfect sense and if it does mean a certain demographic getting stopped and searched then good if it saves lives.
