A very smug tactic.

May work more at a place like Newcastle considering the pitch is on the side of a hill with a huge slope.

I don’t understand why every away team who wins the toss doesn’t do it. If the home team want to kick towards their own fans in the second half and you have the opportunity to stop them doing it then why wouldn’t you?

Because it also means you don’t kick towards your fans in the second half either.

I don’t like it. It feels wrong. But how often does it work? Often seems to give us a bit of a first half boost.
I think the opposite. I don’t think we like it when it happens but I could be wrong. Anyway, they were playing into the Sun for the 1st 30mins or so and hopefully that out them off a bit.

Didn’t Everton do it last season? Worked well then.

I don’t like it either, does feel wrong!
I think, but have no evidence, that's the only time it has been an advantage to the away side. It's something our circle usually comment on, and I'm fairly sure Brighton win those games where the opposition win the toss and turn us around.
Maybe some clever stato has the records.

I always tend to think it's a sign of how they're expecting the game to go. Are they going to be chasing the game and want to be playing toward their own fans, or are they expecting to take a lead, and want their fans behind them as they set up a rear guard. Switching ends like this suggests to me Newcastle were expecting/hoping to take the lead and wanted their fans behind them for the second half onslaught - our previous games this season have all seen us be more productive in the second half than the first.

It must be an advantage for the attacking team if the defending team have the sun in their eyes, surely.

I posted about it in the match thread. Burnley did it and won 3-0 and Everton did too. I'm sure other teams have and it feels like we always come off second best.

It has happened fewer than 10 times in the Amex era I would hazard. I suspect most teams prefer to play into their own support in the second half, hence the choices made. This is why it seems a bit weird when they flip.
