Another thing about Georgia, there is no ONE person who can pardon a convicted person from a Georgia crime. There is a committee that decides on pardons in Georgia and that takes the power away from the Governor of Georgia, a Republican named Kemp, who does not have the power to pardon Trump.

I heard this as well.

One thing I'm a little unclear on, is if the defendant refused to go to Georgia for either the trial or the sentence having been given bail, what powers are held by the other states to force the individual to be sent to complete his sentence?

He has quite a lot on his plate. I pinched this off the beeb:

Trump now faces five upcoming trials - three criminal trials which include the classified documents case, the hush money case, and these election charges; and two civil trials over business practices and alleged defamation of a woman who accused him of rape.
It's really extraordinary that this man is still a front-runner in the next presidential race. People compare Trump to Boris Johnson but blimey, Johnson was a total fool and a bullshitter but had nothing like the sheer moral and criminal depravity of Trump. It's so weird that for any other politician, any o f these charges would be the kiss of death for anyone seeking office. For Trump, the charges seem to add to the cult of victimhood that he's successfully created around him. I'm no fan of the current Biden either (unlike the younger version). I have to hope that Joe will see sense and stand down. There's a fantastic opportunity for a young dynamic Democratic candidate to come to the fore and try to rescue the US.

the tradegy for US politics is republicans still continue to back him, rather than have kill him off. with a bit of leadership and a firm message of the constitution and due process is bigger than a person, especially the President, they would probably turn a lot of the Trump supporters.

There is no "turning" Trump supporters. It is a full on religious cult at this point. He is even claiming now that he is "being indicted for you!"

That's why (most of) the rest of the GOP are too afraid to directly confront him. Including DeSantis who is actually suppose to be challenging him.

To paraphase Churchhill:

The GOP ride to and fro upon tigers which they dare not dismount. And the tigers are getting hungry.”

That's called being "a fugitive from justice" and is another Federal crime.

But for Biden and Trump, it's the lack of an obvious candidate that keeps them there.

Mitt Romney is doing the correct thing to try to get other candidates to coalesce around an alternative to Trump.

And from these shores I don't see anyone with the stardust around them to worry Biden.

FWIW, Biden has done a pretty good job as far as I can tell. Far from perfect, but in a bitterly divided nation and with a hostile Congress, at least appears to be taking his nation forward

I'm in touch with an American couple we met on holiday. We were trying to outdo each other with stories about Donald and Boris.
But I think it's been mentioned before, what if he's correct and there is a conspiracy against him? Of course not.

Trump has the hide of a monster rhino. Every damn criminal act is always swatted away as Fake News, a Witchhunt or a Deep State Conspiracy. It would be pathetic if it wasn't such a clear and present danger for the future of US democracy. Too many crazies in that country to fully laugh off his ravings. Desperately needs putting behind bars through the due process of law not continuing to give his rants the time of day

I do sometimes think though ... as much as I would love him to go to jail, is that the best scenario for the rehabilitation of the US?

If there was some plea deal, for his various crimes, where he avoided jail, had to admit guilt and apologise, couldn't post on social media, speak in public or run for office and basically had to see out his days playing golf in Mar Al Lago, would that actually be a better way of trying to move on from this nightmare?

Trump admit guilt and apologise? In what parallel universe is that ever going to happen?

That would be fine and dandy. But there is zero chance that Trump would agree to that.

As much as I don't want to wish harm on anybody, the best thing at this point, for Trump, for his family, for the Republican party, for the US, for (probably) the world would be for him to pop his cogs. Very few cults survive the loss of their leader and there is nobody even close to be able to inspire and harness the MAGA mob. Undoubtedly there would be years of conspiracy talk similar to JFK, but it would disappear into the fringe with nobody having Trump's particularly twisted brand of charisma to hold it together.

I think they are secretly hoping he isn't long for this world.

He wouldn't stick to the terms of the plea deal. He's a malignant narcissist and would continue posting lies and threats on social media.

Let's hope there is and they win and pop the twat off.
