Sorry, I was forgetting that this generation has had things much tougher than any previous generation before.
It's more the case that YOUR generation has had it much EASIER than any previous generation before AND generations since.

* Free NHS dentistry and university education.
* Bullet-proof gold plated pensions.
* Affordable housing - except for 2 years between 1989 and 1991, mortgage payments as % of income have averaged under 25%. Since 2000, that figure has been between 28 and 50%, and could climb to 60%.
* That's just for people who can get on the ladder in the first place. Deposits have rocketed as house prices have massively outstripped wage inflation.

And now most boomers voted to leave the EU, and they vote Tory more than younger generation, and they are responsible for this having been in power for about 40 of the last 53 years.

Well, I've had a confusing few minutes reading through this before realising that Uncle C is not Uncle Spielberg... :ffsparr:

At least we all know what the "C" stands for now...

I dont. Perhaps you can spell it out.

In the UK about 6.8% of people have mortgages.

By comparison about 61% of people are savers, some of which may be hitting the breadline.

So any rise in income to this long forgotten majority is surely good news.
What a cockwomble
Are you a Christian?

They really need to bring in age related restrictions or an IQ test for voters

If you're trolling - ha fuckin ha

And if you're not - you must have very few friends

6% of a mortgage on a house of 20K-80K was bearable, 30 years ago, due to wages just about keeping up.

6% of a mortgage of £200K-£500K is not bearable and wages are dropping behind.

Don't be sarcastic about young people struggling to juggle their finances. Things are very tough for this generation, you dinosaur.

Are you going to acknowledge the errors in your opening post?

~37.5% of the UK population has a mortgage while about 27.5% own a home outright.

Of the remainder, discounting the children, many will be spending a huge chunk of their income on rent so have little prospect of saving.

What exactly are you celebrating here?
He’s just a very bitter, miserable man who still can’t come to terms with the fact that the house price crash he so confidently predicts every couple of years for the past 15 years or so hasn’t materialised. As shown by his OP, he clearly has no grasp on figures at all.

As a child of the early 50s I will happily admit that we had things much much easier when we were young. I changed jobs at will travelled and lived abroad, always had enough to get by and didn’t even bother with a mortgage until I was in my early thirties. It was not a struggle either and I was not a high earner.

Your gloating is incredibly distasteful and reflects badly on others of our generation

I have no idea what percentage of the UK has a mortgage, but those who don't will probably pay rent. Rent which will almost certainly gone up because the landlord(person?) – who has a mortgage – needs to cover their costs.

But yeah – savings and that...
