Sorry to hear that Grizz , and i don’t agree with the homophobic chanting , but christ , people are dying all over the world through wars and starvation , people being stabbed and murdered in the u.k. , people trafficking , under age prostitution , drugs galore ruining people’s lives and you moan about a bit of obscene language ? put it into context
You make a good point but think of the expression don't judge a man until you have walked a mile in their shoes.

Let me guess - straight white male?
Yes, I don’t join in on the ripostes and I do roll my eyes when the chanting starts as it’s shit and predictable from certain clubs.

I accept some, maybe most, people may be offended about it but I’m not and I won’t pretend to be to keep in step.

I won’t deny 1-0 to the batty boys did amuse me when I first heard it, just like 1-0 to the sheep shaggers did when I first heard Cardiff
doing it.

Like most on here I’m sure, I have gay friends and have had some amusing exchanges on things that maybe I should have got offended about. Standout being a guy of my age on meeting our son for the first time. “You never told me that your son was drop dead gorgeous”

Can you really not see the difference between homophobic chanting and chanting about Northerners being dirty?

How many Northerners do you think don't attend football games because they're uncomfortable/upset with anti-Northern chants?
None.
It’s kind of tough to take the moral high ground though when surrounded by Brighton fans making wanker gestures the whole time and singing about inbreds and about dirty northerners being paedophiles and committing incest. Those same Brighton fans then expect no repercussions and perhaps some of them come on to NSC to tell us how superior they are to the locals everywhere they travel.

Those things are distasteful. Homophobia is a hate crime. There's a big difference.

Leeds have been known as a dirty team for very hard tackles, and foul play for decades.
The other connotation of dirty means living in hovels. Dirty can be a choice. Get a wash or clean up your act.

Gay people can’t change themselves any more than black people can change their skin.
I thought you had lived in the north. You do know people don’t as a rule live in hovels up here ? Bloody hell, the snobbery of some people. One hell of a superiority complex you have there.

And ‘you go down on your brother’ from the away end ? Is that just distasteful ? Try making some of those comments in the street today in a posh bit of Hove. See how you get on with the ‘it’s just distasteful’ defence. Look, my point is just calling out the hypocrisy of blaming the Leeds fans and not putting your own house in order.

Yes, it's very distasteful, but it's not illegal as it doesn't demonise a section of society who have historically been (and are still) oppressed and mistreated for the way they were born

Genuine question, I don’t get out and about around town/cities at night much these days, but is this really still a thing these days?I don’t remember the last time, other than at football matches, that I heard any comments or slurs towards gay people when I have been out and about, and there are plenty who are very upfront about being gay as far as I can see.

You’ve misread that. Another chant Brighton fans were fond of is
In your (insert northern town/city here) slums
Repeat
You look in the dustbin for something to est
You find a dead rat and you think it’s a treat
Repeat first line.

I don’t think northern homes are hovels, you daft bat! I was putting the word ‘dirty’ into context because southerners can be snobby, our fans included.

Yep, fair enough :)
I understand what you are saying. Some others don’t though.

There are many hate crimes in courts, homophobia being one of them. Most just public order offences, with a homophobic uplift (means the sentence is harsher) but there are still physical attacks ABH and GBH etc with homophobic motives.

Newmarket.
If we don't sing and abuse the opposition in any way then we'll have to find new ways to sing our own praises because "Albionnnnnnn Albionnnnn" for even 45 minutes is soon going to get tiresome.
The problem is that singing "we're so great" or "look at our lovely silky football" is all a bit too American. Someone will need to come up with something better and we already see too many crap attempts on here.
Or we need to come up with more clever ways to abuse the opposition in a nice way and without them realising.

"Your strip colours don't match very well"
"Milk is cheaper down our way "
?

Are you asking whether homophobia is still an issue in the UK?
