May 4th be with us all. Six or seven weeks to go. And a thread for harmonious talk and agreement among the NSC faithful.

Perhaps even a predictions competition.

Just as long as :

a. It's not the Greens
b. That idiot Timmy doesn't win a seat in Hangleton and Knoll

Then I don't much care who wins.

No doubt @Falmerfourtickets will now accuse me of libel and harrassment for correctly calling him an idiot. How did you go with reporting my IP to the police Timmy ? Knob jockey 🤣

It’s a Greens versus Labour city and they loath each other with a passion. Argus/B&HNew cover this frequently, open vitriol, plus we know someone very senior in the local Labour Party.

Imho the Greens locally haven’t been a patch on Lucas, many faux pas in their last administration and we’re one of the worst recycling rate councils in the nation, WTF.

I’ll look at manifestos nearer the time.

Just remember that The Argus has history for trying to promote political non-issues and has always been on the Green's back. I was well versed with happenings in the Green Party for somewhile and The Argus was full of slanted bollocks.

The one thing that unites folk generally is a loathing for that rag.

I normally vote Green.

Our friend is one of the key people in the city working for Labour MP’s and councillors, a volunteer, she’s done it for 20 years. They really loath the Green Party.

NSC people not itk think of the city as a progressive alliance, it’s the polar opposite. Power is very alluring.

Yes, I had a run in with Warren Morgan at the time he was attacking the Green's left right and centre when they had the largest number of council seats. I suggested he form an alliance with the Tories that would stop them altogether. Of course, he wouldn't respond to that and said they would work on a case by case basis.

The Labour Party also hid behind the Green coat tails. Policy that was originally brought in by Labour or came from Labour they would let the Greens take flack for. The Argus was very much onboard.

The Greens struggled to cope with authority first time round (they didn't expect it), and made some poor decisions, but when I asked people why they disliked them so much they would often cite things that were little to do with them or in some cases not remotely correct. Shows how folk just believe the crap they read. But Labour and the Tories had a veto in unification on a lot off stuff.

So, I agree, power is an alluring thing. And politicians are first loyal to their own.

I worked for many years with a long term Labour supporter (born 1954) who spent decades hating the Brighton tories. A very physically aggressive person, very spiteful.

I told him in circa 2000 that I was really interested in the growing Green Party. He hit the roof, it was something like “You do realise they’re Trotskyites who furtively rebranded to steal Labour votes (in our city)” then his party piece at work of lobbing a hard cup holder at my head. Apparently I was a traitor.

He won’t get near being elected, I predict two of the three Labour prospects and Dawn Barnett

Blimey.

The Green Party in Brighton is a very broad church. There are 'Watermelons' as they are known. Green on the outside and Socialist within. Then there are moderates. Some Green Party folk are centre-left. I sit best with that group. Although I have no memberships of any political party at present. I'd rather not. There is usefulness in all groups. Although I can never see myself voting Tory unless it was a good local candidate or parish councillor whose first priority was to look after their ward. I'm genuinely sure there are some.

The last Tory I voted for was Bowden in 1992. Didn't always agree with him, but he was an excellent MP. He was convinced in private conversation he wasn't going to be elected that year, but the pensioners saw him through.

I’m afraid those of that live in the city have way more first hand experience of the current clusterfuck than worry what that comic says about them, they’re f***ed and are on their way out and they know it, time for a grown up city council who will get the basics right before fantasy idealism, the latest being turning the Poets Corner into mini Holland, they might want to show that they are capable of clearing it up first ffs.

A Labour majority is the only way to get the city back on track!

The Greens don't have a majority though, they have four of the ten seats on the planning committee. This is the benefits of a hung council.

Assuming they are all willing to work together.

The Hove Station neighbourhood thingy is a cross party consensus thing isn't it ?

I voted Bowden in 92 too, I liked him. I mentioned on another thread last night by coincidence that we bumped into him on that election night as we lived doors away. He said we were all in for a shock that night and he was right.

I look at manifestos. Locally Labour, LibDems and Greens will all be talking the environmental talk, all too easy to do that. I’ll be looking for out for tangible plans on litter, transport, fauna/flora, new housing.
