Would it, I’m not sure. In my first job I had to send out a spare part to a Formula One team during a race weekend. I got 1 digit of a 16 figure part code wrong and the replacement we sent via courier was incorrect.

It caused a huge shit storm, put Jenson Buttons race at risk etc etc - I got spoken to and asked to pay more attention, but I didn’t even get a warning, lose my job, or made to record a video apology to anyone. Actually it changed a process it required 2 people to sign off the part before it was sent out, rather than an individual.

It’s not good enough and given there is the VAR & the VAR assistants do all miss it is baffling, but I’m not sure it’s a sackable offence - nor would mistakes in any other job generally be

The VAR was grossly negligent. It can’t be an easy mistake to make - it must be a negligent and incompetent act to draw a line on the wrong player. It’s almost inconceivable that it was actually drawn incorrectly

Struggling to get as excited as the rest of you about this issue.

I think VAR gets more right than it gets wrong, and corrects more on field decisions than it 'incorrects'; frankly it's not going away and I think it's worth having, even though it's not perfect.

Someone messed up, that has always happened when humans are involved, whether they are supported by technology or not. All we have to do is get on with our lives, support the albion and hope PGMOL learn from it and improve processes as a result.

Not going to play that particular "what if..." game myself. If the goal had stood, the rest of the game is played out differently by both sides. It's plausible the end result in a world where the goal stood ended up being a 2-1 Palace win. Or it could have been a 5-0 rout to us. Who knows?

Careful Joey a lot of people won't have a clue what you're talking about.

It will always make me laugh even if some don't get it. At one point in the 70s it was my Uncle who carried the board with the half time scores on it around the edge of the Goldstone pitch (before my time though). So there is some factor of it being an in joke within our family.

I haven't read through the rest of this thread but have the VAR guys actually offered their own reasons for messing up? Any explanation?
I find it hard to believe that the player closer to the goal wasn't seen.

Can you just explain how Palace would have scored twice. As they had absolutely no shots all game and the only goal they scored was a massive cock up by us!!

If we’d scored then might have came out and attacked us more in the second half. Viera might have made a triple sub at half time.

The odds are they wouldn’t, but unless you have some kind of access to a parallel dimension where it counted then it’s impossible to say for sure.
