City being linked with Mac Allister...

Manchester City have identified Alexis Mac Allister as a potential successor to Ilkay Gundogan, according to reports in Spain.
Gundogan's current contract with the Blues expires this summer, with the lack of progression over a new deal leading to speculation that the midfielder could call time on an eight-year spell at the Etihad. The 32-year-old continues to catch eyes in Barcelona with the Spanish side having failed to land him last year.
As part of a contingency plan for losing their club captain, those in charge at City are exploring potential successors that can be snapped up efficiently in the off-season. And according to Fichajes, Pep Guardiola's side have decided on Brighton's Mac Allister as the first choice.

Translation of part of the Fichajes article:

The Catalan coach is a fan of the game of the Argentine midfielder, which was an important piece for his team to win the Qatar 2022 World Cup and which is a vital piece within Brighton and Hove Albion with Roberto De Zerbi.
Alexis Mac Allister is a soccer player who stands out for his technical quality, ability to play between the lines and creativity. He knows the positional game well due to his work with Roberto de Zerbi and has a lot of experience in the Premier League, so his adaptation will be quick.
The Argentine ends his contract with Brighton in the summer of 2025 and its price is around 40 million euros, so it would not be such a high operation and it would make it easier for the club to invest in other areas of the field such as defense and attack.

40M Euros - not even 40M pounds?!! Clearly Fichajes do not know their arse from their elbow. At least the writer for the Manchester Evening News didn't take such bollox on board, recognising that a big fee would be required.
It seems strange that one Argentinian World Cup winner can be sold for £107M (OK, it was to Chelsea, but even so........) while his fellow midfield World Cup winner gets touted around by crap journalists for less than half the value.

Latest heap of shit from a so-called ‘journalist’

Aside from that being a TERRIBLY written article (I'm guessing an AI bot was involved) that's a very specific figure to come up with. I feel a bit sorry for people who believe that sort of dirge.

Nearly half the price that Chelsea paid for his midfield partner in the World Cup Final. I know he went with the Chelsea tax but still.

Alexis is more experienced and has scored more goals. It’s laughable the figures these journalists come up with. It’s not even an educated guess.

Any media outlet that discloses a specific asking price for an Albion player can immediately be kicked into the bin. Very reputable journos have consistently said that Tony never sets a specific asking price.

File this in the "Clickbait media outlet making up stories to get click revenue on their site" bin with all the other internet transfer trash

Never heard of this media outlet. These days anyone can write anything, just clicks nothing else...
It's been widely-reported in quite a few places (The Sun, HITC etc), after initially being mentioned by Argentinian football journalist Gaston Edul:

That doesn't make it true, of course. Bloom and Barber won't be letting anyone know what kind of figure is required to prise Mac Allister away.

The club have a brewing issue on their hands this summer. Alexis, Moises, and Karou are all going to attract big bids from clubs that the players will want to leave for, bu we cant let them all go without destroying the team.
At least we have been able to postpone the issue until the summer which gives us:

1. Time to plan
2. Time to assess the loaned / U23 players currently here
3. Identify replacements for the summer

I'd be interested to see what the collective thoughts are on our readiness to replace the Big 3.

Mac Allister - perhaps Buonanotte could be a contender?
Mitoma - Ayari? Adringa? Will be hard to replace either way
Caicedo - Another hard one to replace at HIS level, and I don't see a suitable candidate in house currently

These aren't the players you're looking for.

Looking at Jakub Moder's defensive stats, compared to Caicedo's, they are surprisingly similar. I remember reading that he also says centre midfield is his preferred position.

So potential replacements:

Mac Allister - Buonanotte

Mitoma - Adringa / Ayari

Caicedo - Moder

To be fair, Mac Allister and Mitoma have got better reasons for wanting to move on than Caicedo, but Caicedo (or his agent) are the ones who seem likely to push for a move. I wonder if a season in the Europa League (I really don't think we can make the CL) will be enough incentive to help keep them here? - plus no doubt a pay rise! I also wonder if there's any mileage in offering them a golden handshake of £2 or £3M but only if they depart after June 2024?
