Surely, if proven to have broken the financial rules to enhance performance, honours should be rescinded.

Until there is a proper deterrent nothing will change.

I take the same view on this news as I do going into every Albion game: expect nothing and anything else is a bonus.

These clubs have MASSIVE weight, power and money behind them. I can almost guarantee that the punishment won't fit the crime in any way, shape or form.

However, going forward if they are serious a points deduction is the only sanction these clubs will understand. Otherwise they spend BIG BIG, take the transfer ban, fine etc and carry on as before.

These owners / despot states have unlimited resources we all know that.

Sadly, I can't see the current government doing anything. They will welcome money from anywhere if they can get away with it politically.

This is somewhat different as it is the PL/FA and not UEFA who are scared of the bigger clubs.

I am not confident at all, but they sign up to the rules and the PL/FA must be super confident to publish this now, plus you will have 19 chairman demanding action and 5 of them have the threat of the super league.

Introducing party politics, once Starmer's PM from Dec 24, what legislation do you envisage to stop Abu Dhabi, Saudi Arabia and Boehly cheating? Abram and the non-Dom's, Abu Dhabi, arrived under New Labour.

I'd love to see football or governments act decisivily once and for all.

I just can't see Starmer or any PM truly getting involved. A laissez faire stance, plus the inwards investment is secretly loved.

If they do nothing (or minimal punishment), it sets a dangerous precedent for the rest of the clubs in the league. How could they say anything to Chelsea, Newcastle, or other petro-clubs with bottomless pits of cash to burn?

We all realise that this will take a LONG time before any form of punishment (even minimal) will be put into effect. Expect nothing until at least next season

I think that’s the final intention with these morally driven football clubs.
Pretty sure about 20 years ago the idea of a European super league was being pushed by a lot of the elite clubs. I’m now starting to hope for it too. Then we can play in a competitive league both financially and footballing, for a change.

I suppose it depends on if the FA/PL want to see our clubs competing in Europe. If they like the idea of a number of English clubs getting to the latter stages of European cup competitions, they will do little to prevent these clubs spending to make this possible.

Agree, I can't see ANY government really acting, they see the PL as a big international success and if its full of cheats is won't bother them

The more Man City keep investigating into the local area, the more they can break the football rules. And to be fair, they have done a very good in their local area. I used to live in Tameside and would pass their stadium everyday. Its remarkable what they’ve done for the local community, just a shame it gives them this untouchable power in the world of football.

I recommend a treble relegation and start the following season on -45 points. In addition fans of opposing teams who have suffered defeats during this period should be given the opportunity to kick a current City player in the testicles. A queueing system will be in operation and those queueing for Jack Grealish in particular are asked to be patient, as extended waiting times may apply.
