Wonder if we will move for Matviyenko now. We were linked to him in 2020 and we love a long pursuit. Linked since RDZ has been here for obvious reasons. Makes a lot of sense with Colwill a) out and b) likely to be off in the summer. Played the Colwill well under RDZ. Can also play left back.

no idea what this says as dont subscribe

Not identified by Brighton , but RDZ wants him and is pushing the board to meet the €25M valuation which the club feel is a bit high. Player is on a ‘break’ in London this week. Seen as replacement for Colwill when he goes back to Chelsea

the 'not identified by Brighton' bit is a tad concerning....

He had not been identified via their widely renowned scouting system and instead this was a candidate being pursued by De Zerbi.

We were definitely linked with him pre De Zerbi. Think It was 19/20 season..might have just been a made up rumour, obviously. No way we'd sign a player for that kind of money if our geeks and scouts don't rate him.

Now we’ve got a much more vocal coach, it feels like differences over his targets and the type of players on the club’s radar could be more problematic. I suppose he knows this lad’s qualities inside out though so would be strange not to back RDZ’s judgement.

yeah i got that - hence my concern!
He's 27 in a few months, and it may be as simple as that.

We don't tend to go for players of that age as there's very limited, if any, scope to polish them up and enhance their value.

Agreed. There has to be some room though for ready made first team players surely - we’ve done it with Welbeck and Lallana. No idea if he’s any good but at this point - with real potential for Europe - his profile looks useful in terms of experience. RDZ has been here long enough to know whether this guy is better than what we’ve got. You’d think the number-crunchers would need to present some pretty good reasons for deeming him unsuitable (if they do) - beyond just the lack of potential for a big profit.

Welbeck and Lallana were free transfers so, although they'll command a fair chunk in pay (and, likely, signing-on fees), there wasn't the c£25m transfer fee to stump up.

I'm only guessing and may be completely wrong, but his age profile doesn't seem to really fit with how we've been recruiting of late. But that's also exactly what many Arsenal fans were saying about Trossard when they signed him. Since seeing him play however, they now think they have Messi mk II.

I'm not saying we shouldn't sign him, nor that we won't, just trying to guess why he may not have triggered a big flashing red light on Bloom's transfer target super-computer!

Yes, good points about Lallana and Welbeck. Hope we can strike a balance between pursuit of profit and, at times, getting in players that can have an immediate impact when the circumstances are right. The fee does seem steep but if you get 5 years out of him and he’s superb, could be money well spent. Could be Colin Hawkins II though, for all I know about him. Very happy to trust Uncle Tony will get the right price or move on.
