De Zerbi said: “I want players that work for the team on the pitch. Leandro knows very well my opinion, my idea. I spoke a lot of time with him…I like him as a player but I want more from him because he can play better and can work harder and can run more on the pitch. I want a player who gives 100 per cent in every training session and game. Without this characteristic you cannot play with me.”
I love to hear this. 100% honesty and very high expectations with zero tolerance of any kind of passenger - if you’re not pulling your weight you can **** off. Very likely to have a positive impact on the players - in any decent team environment they absolutely hate anyone not giving 100% and getting away with it.

Fascinated to understand what’s going on in Trossard’s psyche though — whether it’s personal issues, simply wanting a big payday, some WC hangover or simply short of the required mentality

Highly rate that. Yeah if Trossard is being like that, then he can f*** off. No time for it. We will cope without him, no matter how shit it might be that we are slightly weakened. In any other job, you just get fired.
Good grief. I don't think anyone wants him to "f off" . I'll say again. ALbion want to keep their best players.
And You really do not get fired for not performing at 100% or close every day (or every training session/ match). RDZ is a different manager in the way he talks publicly about his players - but negative comments do not mean x is necessarily out of the door - its just he has a more direct way of leading/motivating compared to Potter/Hughton. The possible sale of Trossard either in January or the summer, and his unwillingness to sign a new contract is due to his age (28), his ambitions and the club wanting to maximise a fee if it happens cos he has 18 months left. This was true before the world cup/ and is true now. This injury / RDZ bollocking / form dip is just a side show.

I think Newcastle is where he will end up. Either way it is absolutely nuts that we might lose someone like him to a far richer club above us in the league but he is no longer a nailed on starter for us. Ridiculous.
If I were forced to plump for a destination, then I'd agree Newcastle would be the most likely. If Tross were to really think about it, I do wonder whether it'll be the best move for him. He'll be vying with Wilson, Joelinton, St Maximin, Almiron and Isak in the front three that Howe is currently playing. That doesn't include the likes of Murphy and Wood who are also around (but I think are less highly rated by Howe), nor does it include potential other attacking signings that they've been linked with (eg Maddison).

Agree and all of which has been said up thread in various ways I think. I also think - RDZ has a very direct and open management style but not saying anything any manager wouldn’t tell all his players - I mean what manager tells the dressing room, ‘good luck - I only expect 90 % from you all’ -or ‘I‘ll play you, and expect you to start you even if youre are fatigued and/or injured’? Because Tross is on a 12 month extension by the end of this season, and will probably transfer out this January or the next window, to possibly Newcastle or even Madrid as I said early on in the thread, think maybe RDZs words have taken on more significance than they would have had otherwise and the press and rumour mills are having a field day.

Left for the World Cup in form and also enhanced media focus on him - all positive for that big move.

Shit World Cup

Strop

Now having to turn the wheels his end to get a move as he isn’t in focus as much as he was.

Will be interesting to see who he joins as to money solely or to win things.

I don’t think he’s got the same appeal since the WC and it’s telling on his demeanour and body language

He needs a rethink, the Belgian players refusal/unwillingness to give him the ball should ring alarm bells surely. He could end up a bit part player again at a rich club

If he wants out we have to let him go in January really, not going to do us any favours having him hanging around stinking the place out. If we can get £30m for him we've done well.

Effectively only 18 months left on his contract, 28 years old and wants to leave - those three factors will all push down the fee we get for him.
Wants to leave? Is that a guess or something you’ve heard or have I missed something on this thread?

He doesn’t have to “engineer “ a move. Club aren’t going to let him go on a free next year and publicly make great play on his they don’t stand on way of transfers (but they will push hard on fee). The best way of getting the move/fee all sides want is to play and recapture his early season form.

Nope.

But a few other clubs want him to leave by all accounts - so as TB and PB are fond of saying, if a January ‘offer is irresistible‘…. and Tross likes the club making it …. that could change.

Other than that, I‘m afraid we can only rely on the psychic abilities demonstrated by a few fellow NSCers on this thread 🤷‍♂️

Or hanging around scoring another 6 or 7 goals to send us to Europe ? Whats the rush ? He can leave in the summer.

I'd personally be gutted to see Tross leave. None of us really know why there is an issue right now but i would sincerely hope that we (the club) are trying to help him find the right mindset again.
If he is set on leaving then fair enough and lets command the fee that TB feels appropriate. Id like to keep him until the end of the season though because if and its a big IF we can secure European football, he may have a change of heart.

He won't be scoring any the way he has been playing of late! Having said that, he won't be worth any less in the summer (unless he stinks the place out for the rest of the season). Ideal scenario is he buckles down on the promise he can have his move in the summer.

I love Trossard and on his game he can be near on unplayable for opponents. However, he is out of form since World Cup and right now can't get into the team with Roberto stating he won't unless he gives 100%! He also has a slight injury which explains why he wasn't involved at Middlesbrough. No player will play if they want away but hoping Trossard isn't that type of player and will come back fighting and perhaps help us continue our climb for Europe🙂
