Tbf if Southgate orchestrated the going longer then fair play to him, meant Senegal couldn’t just press and tbf they are useless at dealing with the long ball

Not quite a sitter

All the big nations have found these games bloody tough so far this tournament. Many have ended up losing them. Senegal are African champions, too. The moaning on here is laughable up to the goal
I haven't been reading the thread, been watching the game, but I imagined people would be whining. France were quality in the end but Poland had an easy opportunity to score first and they smashed it against the keeper.

I understand the nerves of watching your team can make you less objective and prone to over criticism, but despite a couple of crap passes giving Senegal chances, we were still the better side even before the goal.

some of the negative comments on here are either a wind up or ridiculously stupid

If people can't this is a masterclass in tactics and game management can I suggest you open your eyes when watching football?
It would be interesting to know whether it was Southgate or the players who changed it.

This a thousand times. We changed it and looked great.

For 35 minutes they bossed it, we were comatose, Stones and Maguire passing to Senegalese, Pickford kept us in the WC. That’s a fact, just analysed on the box.

That doesn’t stop (most of) us being ecstatic with the two goals.

Talk about a half of two halves!
So you think Senegal were the best team in the first half of that? Performing better relative to the two teams' expectations maybe, but not better

Our attacking players look as lethal as France's. If we get through the second half as we all hope, the Quarter could be about six all.

We need to stop the bollocking about at the back. We are a confidence team. After the goal especially we looked very, very good. Attack, attack attack

No.

Stones and Maguire passing to Senegalese
Yes, there were a couple of crap passes, and Saka stupidly keeping the ball in play but without control, which lead to their shot.

Pickford kept us in the WC. That’s a fact, just analysed on the box.
He made one excellent save. If he hadn't, I imagine we'd still have got back into it. Did he make any other saves you wouldn't expect him to?

Stones and Maguire clearly struggled in the first part of that half to build up from the back and managed at the same time to make us really vulnerable to Senegals strikers getting behind the line. Guess we missed the memo on that being part of Southgate’s game management.

Two great goals against the flow of play but no excuse for dicking around at the back.

It's not been perfect but our attacking class showed through last 10 or so of the half. Can't ask for much more from the first half bar a couple of mistakes at the back. First 20 or so we had about 70% possession. Yes not doing much with it but in control overall. Then a few mistakes as Senegal grow in confidence in the game. But then the game changed with us mixing it up more. Imo nothing to complain about in the first half bar a few mistakes at the back, which all the other big nations have been guilty of, some much more than us. Senegal are bloody decent ffs!
