So Liz Truss's chief of staff, Mark Fullbrook still owns a 10% stake in Sir Lynton Crosby’s lobbying CT Group, who's clients include tobacco firms and teh Saudi government.

Is it just blatant in your face corruption now, where it doesn't really matter what you do or what conflict of interest maybe involved?
how would you prove it?

No. I can’t see how they could have another leadership election and survive. For the couple of hundred plus Tory MP’s who want Truss gone, having her in position is better than a general election where the majority of them will lose their seats.

She’ll soldier on as the ‘front woman’ of Hunt’s new administration.

They've been doing whatever they can to cling, limpet like, to power since 2015 - CMD started it by agreeing to a policy he fundamentally disagreed with (sound familiar?), and they've carried on since so Im not certain they'll give up now.... In the national interest my arse.

Will Truss and Hunt act like Johnson did in running the few wise heads in the Party, out of Government,in the manner of Gaulke, Clarke and Hammond's departures.......shows how far we have fallen when the likes of May, IDS and Kwarteng show a flicker of a conscience in last night's voting chaos.

Sorry, but it happened when Johnson took power but we were distracted by the pandemic.

He was the acceptable face of a Conservative party that had been slowly taken over by free market extremists.

They didn't calculate that the free market didn't like them very much.
Oh, not saying it’s anything recent. Goes way back as you say.

There will be no revolution here. The power of social media hasn't got that far (yet). The poll tax disorder won't happen again, nothing like that will happen again. Any form of 'disorder' & civil disobedience these days from gluing yourself to a road or pouring milk in a supermarket seems to start a moral panic. Just to make it clear I'm not advocating the methods or saying that they are wrong in what they are doing but that is pretty much our limit of 'disorder'. If half the country decided to march to Downing Street on mass to demand a GE it would probably be a massive co-incidence that electricity black outs would happen to stop people travelling (all down to Putin obviously). Would I go? I don't know, as I don't actually want to be arrested for participating in a march. It leads me to the conclusion that the general public will possibly have no say until 2024 on who runs our country. 🤷‍♀️
Let’s hope you’re right. Or wrong. Who knows anymore!

Let's not forget the amazing contribution of the bungle****. He was gifted a whopping majority and instead of running with that, he was allowed or possibly encouraged to blow it. Fair play to Thick Lizzie for being brave enough to clear the mess up but it is far beyond her abilities which look, quite frankly, nominal.

A party that has gone from hero (with that majority) to less than zero. Bravo ERG and bungle**** as Thick Lizzie will get all the blame.

Since Brexit that the Conservative Party has been steadily infiltrated by very right wing members and selection of MPs this was a direct result of Cameron’s fear of UKIP taking of Conservative voters and he’s response was to agree to a referendum, the result led to Cameron running and May leading a government of factions one of which was the ERG who brought her down and led to Johnson with all it’s issues it won a landslide which had led to many of the centre right MPs not standing having either the threat of or actuality loosing their local party support and nomination.
Now with Truss the ultra right wing is no longer in the shadows pulling strings they are up front and centre.

Many of the Conservative Party members and MPs no longer hold centre right ideals instead they are very far right verging on what’s being dubbed neo-liberal which is a new name for fascism and the resulting battle for the sole of Conservatism

whats happening now is an internal battle for the very sole of the Conservative Party neither Hammond or Shaps could be seen as hard right as the centre right attempts to regain control

I like the way she says "I'm not a quitter" as if it's something to be proud of. She's a busted flush. This ridiculous, embarrassing woman should leave now whilst she has some semblance of dignity left

This government has no scruples or morals. I'm not sure even a 2 million strong rally of people calling for a GE followed by a widely supported general strike would make them consider a GE.

Of course, Truss may be forced out. Meh. Sadly, there is an army of talentless box-ticking morons on the government benches all too willing to take their 5 minutes of fame. They just need to be looney/stupid enough to command the support of the ERG, the Bruges Group or some other shady tax-payer funded Tufton Street crank group that won't even publish their members list.

Truss won't go.

She's another that will have to be removed kicking and screaming from Downing Street.

For the good of the country, though, just GO.

And still, there are many in this board who will put their X in the Tory box.

My relatively moderate other half has just suggested that the likes of Rees-Mogg be strung up, I'm not quite ready for revolutionary 18th century France but bugger me the Tories and those who vote for then ...
that is the strangest thing about it for me.

how many millions will vote for this omnishambles? what would the tories have to do???

Don't expect this to be over anytime soon.
I think you're right, but I think Truss will be gone very soon (she might limp on to 31st October's statement, I doubt she'll be there for Remembrance Sunday). But the chaos will continue, I think ultimately the relationships within the Conservative party itself have fundamentally broken down, the forces trying to either drag it back to the centre (Hunt, Shapps) and those trying to drag it to the right (Braverman, Baker) won't stop just because Truss is removed, the power battle will continue. If they replace her with Mourdant or Sunak then the whole thing will happen again, and sooner or later there'll be another huge bust up over something.

That's a bit disingenuous, I don't think my mum is either stupid or dishonest because she has spent her lifetime of votes on them. Misguided & naïve would be more accurate. Even though she said she wouldn't vote for them again she's still saying about interest rates hitting 17% in the 80's/90's & saying it was the Labour Gov of the 70's that caused it. Bring it forward to the 21st century and Labour caused the global financial crash. Actually I'll add in brainwashed as when I asked her what she has gained from the government over the last few years she said Covid was handled well & the Covid vaccine. I didn't like to mention the fact that she is still to scared to go out, she can't get an appointment at the Dr's & she's now waiting on 3 op's. On GE day I'm going to hide her wheelchair (joking, sort of). :lolol:
I wouldn't say disingenuous. That's simply not the right word. Harsh, maybe? Fair? Certainly.

The difference between labour and conservate was paper thin in the 70s. If you mother thinks that 'Lawson boom and bust' as it is known, in the late 80s and early 90s, was caused by the labour government of the 70s, I'd be inclined to give her a cup of sweet tea, say 'yes, dear' and move on to another subject.

The difference between labour and conservative was extreme when Thatcher got it, and didn't become extreme again till Corbyn became labour leader. It has become highly extreme since Johnson and Starmer became leaders, and had now got immeasurably more extreme. If your mother still blames labour for the current state of play, that's a bit sad, but so it goes.
