It still surprises me that some people still believe that Brexit caused Covid, the war in Ukraine and the crash of 2008. Sadly, some of these people still can't let go of their myths and delusions, and still burble on about unicorns......................

It still surprises me that some simply don’t believe that Brexit has had a very detrimental effect on the country as a whole but the economy in particular. Sadly some of these people simply can’t see they’ve been right royally screwed by this shit shower …

Not really. The interest rates always used to fluctuate with the base rate/lending rate (always lower than the rate at which they loaned, obviously - that's how banks made their legitimate profits). It's only relatively recently (well into this century) that the rates on savings accounts have plunged to their current levels.

there's not a lot of money in basic retail banking services, so they've not passed interest rate rises to savings, while offering better rates elsewhere on loans or targeted savings. the building societies are offering over 1% if you look around.

Standard Tory, they really don't understand what things are like outside of their world of privilege is like, genuinely. I would add that I hate that they compare running the country to running a household. Deliberately dishonest nasty bar stewards.

And of course the Tories and their supporters are massively supportive of workers who try to maintain their spending power...

So that's now Gove and Grant Shapps (or whatever he is calling himself these days) suggesting they will vote against the scrapping the 45% top rate and many others will.

This all reminds me of a never transmitted episode of Hi-Di-Hi where Peggy was elected leader of Maplins Holiday Camp.

You enjoy reading scripts of never transmitted 70’s British comedy shows? That’s awesome!

If you are going to be a smart arse, get the decade right.

I wasn’t being a smart arse, I have the missing Dad’s Army episode scripts myself.

Lay off the drink, fella.

I’ve never seen Hi-de-Hi and had no idea what decade it was from.

Hi-De-Hi was a 1980s comedy looking back at a golden age where the working classes were expected to know their place and be happy with sub standard accommodation.

A bit like the current Conservative Party.

He mentioned Hi-de-hi, and you made a 'smart' remark about 1970s comedies (Hi-de-hi was 1980s). Then you introduce some irrelevant drivel about Dad's Army...........................

It's fairly obvious where drink is most likely involved!

Entirely relevant if he does indeed read scripts of unfilmed episodes of TV shows.

Hi-de-Hi was made in the 80's, set in the 50's/60's. 70's is the UK economy Truss is invoking. Same writers as Dads Army, Hi-de-Hi that is, not Truss, at least I think not Truss. You Have Been Watching.....

Whatever. He mentioned Hi-de-hi..You apparantly didn't even know what he was talking about - so why wade in with some drivel about a 70s sitcom? Pour yourself another large one.

Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng is expected to make a statement in the next hour, reversing the proposed scrapping of the 45p rate of income tax, 10 days after it was announced in the mini-budget.

The U-turn comes after several Tory MPs voiced their opposition to the plan.

BBC political correspondent Nick Eardley said government sources were not commenting
