If the purpose of the trip is just football (and not sightseeing, culture, leisurely meals out, etc) then I’d recommend aiming for NW Germany, Düsseldorf or Cologne (for direct flights from London) or drive, as I did in August.

That way, as others have said, you can make a weekend of it and take in at least two or even 3 games with doable train journeys. You also get free rail travel with your match day ticket on the regional network.

One word of advice if you go to Monchengladbach give yourself at least 2 hours to get back to the centre. Never again shall I complain about queues/waiting at Falmer!

As mentioned by someone else, the easiest way to guarantee a Dortmund ticket is through their tourist Adrenaline Package, which requires a two night stay in a hotel. The Dortmund match day experience was great but the city itself a bit boring.

I’m looking at Leverkusen and Schalke for my next trip and a stay in Cologne.

Seville has quite an impressive old charm. It’s huge and not to different to Camp Nou at the very top.

Munich is impressive because of the size and design walking up from the station.

Berlin Olympic Stadium just because of the history there

Amsterdam is a bit meh - similar to Wembley

Turin is interesting and kind of built into the ground , looks like something from the teletubbies

in Spain I've done Valencia and Barcelona

I guess it's prob worth doing Nou Camp once as it is quite a spectacle, and it's a piece of piss to get tickets, but atmosphere wise there's not much going on...Valencia was much better (and tbh I prefer the city)

I was due to go to a St Pauli game but covid scuppered my plans....I love Germany so there's numerous German grounds on the bucket list

Go to a Dresden match.

Great city to visit. The ground is really close to the City Zoo. We took a picnic to the Zoo in the afternoon. The ground is big but not like the really big ones like Nou Camp etc.

It also has a " safe standing " section so you can relive the old days of standing terraces if you wish.

In the event some great bars and restaurants on the old Bohemian part of the city . Also some really big outdoor dining bar/restaurants situated on the river.

And the best bit. They have colours similar to Motherwell. Claret, Amber and white :)

Cologne fits the bill because it is a great city to visit with so much Roman history and being a University city a lively nightlife, great bars particularly near the Riverside. Great Tram links from the city centre to the RhineEnergie (sp?) Stadium makes the journey so easy.

A slight derail, but has anyone been to Fenerbahce's ground? Worth a visit?

If you do go to Gelsenkirchen you can visit both our previous grounds which still stand. Glückauf-Kampfbahn is on your left as you pass on the tram from the Station. The Parkstadion is used for junior games and is around the back of the current stadium complex. Allow time also for a visit to the Zollverein mine in Essen as well, tours in English on Saturdays.
