Andy Naylor is spreading our footballing philosophy across the world and we seem to have some issue that he has no inside track on our recruitment. No one does. It’s upsetting that someone who has so much heart, intelligence, straightforwardness and passion about our club results in ambivalence, at best.

He’s a very thorough journalist. He’s a good man. He supports our philosophy. Why don’t people like him?

Might be time to like his posts. He supports us in a very balanced way.

Great club with an excellent journalist.

Didn’t the club used to feed The Argus/Naylor transfer titbits, but then they clamped down about the time Barber joined? Just 4 itk since then.

Until then there were too many big mouths spilling the beans, at times when confidentiality was required pre signing on the dotted line.

I'm glad in some ways that he doesn't blabbermouth too much about our transfer targets.

Of course he already has with his reporting that we are considering bringing in Christian Kouame to replace Maupay.

Naylor does a good job most of the time.

I’m kinda glad he doesn’t know much about our transfer arrangements because it makes it more likely that no one else does, and so fewer teams are going to pinch our targets.

Unfortunately for Andy all the other Athletic journalists tend to write more interesting and better crafted articles.

But I'm sure as long as they are paying him a decent wage and he doesn't have to work for the Argus he must be delighted.

I write this as a journalist who doesn't know Andy. I've had a small number of Twitter interactions, but we've never met or worked for the same organisation.

Right: that's the conflict of interest dealt with.

The man's a legend. If you look at what has happened to local papers in the time that he worked for the Argus, many of them died on their arse. He kept the Argus full of relevant Albion news during the most turbulent, and then triumphant, time the club has ever known. Albion coverage was the only thing that remained interesting in the Argus or on its website. The paper itself had about a thousand editors and multiple rounds of staff cuts. Andy stayed, until he left, and then he left for a job where he could cover the Albion more. We owe him for that. It's bloody, bloody hard to get that sort of coverage out of a club unless you know it, its people, and its fans inside out. My career in sports journalism lasted about a month and ended when I realised I had to interview the manager of Carlisle United twice a week and it had to be made into something interesting for days and days. I failed. Andy will properly go down in history as one of the last great newspaper football reporters. No arse-kissing. I mean this.

Naylor is a quality old school journalist who deals in facts.

Folk will say how he never seems to get the story first. Except that he probably does but only goes to press with some certainty. Doubtless some will now point out when he has been wrong- which isn't very often.

I always wait for Naylor before assuming something is correct.

He has got a bit grumpy sometimes, but when so many people act like twats where he is concerned it's hardly surprising.

I don't believe anything unless it's Naylored.

Kouame is being used in a swap deal doubt full if there is much in this, what Naylor writes or doesn’t write about transfers is irrelevant. The modern game is all about agents. If the club are looking for a particular player agents will know this way before Naylor does.

Naylor is who we turn to when we want to know if a rumour is true or not.

I haven't got an Athletic subscription so can't comment on his writing skills but I am glad he is around during transfer time.

FWIW The Athletic seem to have a good philosopy on journalism. I need to have a look at a subscription.

You can get it for £12 for the year.

I really like it. In the spirit of transparency I also write the occasional article for them too, but you do get some good quality investigative journalism, especially from the likes of Matt Slater and Joey D’Urso, as well as the more traditional Andy Naylor style coverage. Some of the fanboy journalism grates at times but that’s always the case.

Great club with an excellent journalist.

Love him! Ever since he asked me, and two other Albion fans, to share his taxi at Yeovil back in 2013/14 season. Hurrah for Andy.

I enjoy both his and Owen’s articles. Yes he gets a bit angsty and sarcastic about fans now and again, I have no problem with that either as I tend to agree with quite a lot of the comments

I don’t get the dislike and I don’t want a journalist wearing blue and white specs writing about us either, it ends up not being balanced reporting.

Largely agree re The Athletic, though I prefer the American coverage.
