Cowardly chicken decision

watch the usual ****wits defend it though/...................and its the same usual suspects time after time and thread after thread

I would prefer it wasn’t withdrawn form cinemas but I also wouldn’t risk the safety of my staff if I ran the cinema. That would have to come first for me.

What is the film about?

Interesting;

Sheikh Yasser al-Habib is a Kuwaiti Twelver Shia scholar, and the head of the London-based Khoddam Al-Mahdi Organization, as well as Al-Muhassin mosque in Fulmer, Buckinghamshire, and the writer of The Lady of Heaven. Al-Habib's work focuses on Islamic history, drawing on Shia and Sunni sources.

I imagine there’s a commercial aspect to the decision. It’s target audience was Muslims, Muslims think it’s offensive and are protesting it. So why bother screening it? May as well put Top Gun on that screen and make some money.
Besides, how many screens was this going to be shown on, really? I don’t blame Cineworld, why bother with the hassle?
No point arguing with religion, especially one as medieval as Islam.

What is the film about?

It's a very difficult call; ideally no 'free expression' in this country should ever be ditched to appease a minority of zealots; but I think there is a 'duty of care' priority in the short term, which should be followed by 'calling out' and confronting the issues expressed by those who wish to restrict our democratic rights.... The issue will not go away by simply appeasing the bullies....

These are the sentiments of the producer, Malik Shlibak: "no one should dictate for the British public what they can and cannot watch or discuss"; he goes on to describe the protesters as "fringe groups".

'The film, which was released in UK cinemas on 3 June, claims to tell the story of Lady Fatima, the daughter of Prophet Muhammad.

It has been criticised by some groups for depicting the Prophet Muhammad - which is seen as an insult in Islam - and for its portrayal of prominent revered figures in early Sunni Islam'.

riveting , kudos for researching the matter .....the fact is a fringe of a fundamentalist element of a supposed minority has managed to get the film withdrawn from mainstream viewing which can not be a good thing ...shirley...?? in Aboriginal culture it is taboo to see or show images of the deceased but you won't find them picketing David Gulpillil films or Gurrumal recitals , these loons need to wind their feckin' necks in

In an ideal world the cinema’s would show it and the protesters would have to like it or lump it. I’m particularly passionate about cinema so this does not sit easy with me. But, as we have said, I wouldn’t risk anyone’s safety.
Having said that, I’m going to find a cinema that is screening it and go and watch it.

As far as I’m aware it’s a perfectly respectful telling of an aspect of the prophet myth. However, some factions of Islam believe that any and all depictions of the prophet Mohammed as blasphemy, punishable by death.

It will likely be a very boring film.
