We won't actually see this £400 anyway. It will be paid to the energy companies and our bills 'reduced' by £400. Which basically gives them the go-ahead to raise prices as much as they want and still make it look as though they are giving us something. A bit like when they took 5p off petrol taxes, but petrol (up here anyway) went up 2p the next day. They just said 'would have gone up 7p otherwise' - but we don't actually know that.
In effect this is a windfall tax on the fuel producers to move money back to the energy companies. We're just the conduit, or the pawns in the middle.

In my lifetime I have never known a Prime Minister as corrupt and unprincipled.. the ruling Party would stand for the values of democracy and justice even if their leader didn't....
Sadly we are now in a time when rules and interpretations can be corrupted and twisted to suit the requirements of our current Prime Minister.
A little bit of us dies each day that this man stays in office. As a nation historically we have done things that have been selfish, ignorant, callous or sometimes groundbreaking , liberating and world leading. .. Our democracy is built on honesty, trust and the integrity to do " The Right Thing " ...and yet now we have a government shaped in the image of its leader, corrupt, lying and unable to he truthful. Sadly the only way to stem this tide is to hope for Johnson's MP's to restore the values we once took for granted...but sadly, too many are unable to shed their hero worship and face reality.
The changing of the Ministerial code is straight out of the Dictator's handbook. Gain office on the back of a lie and then start changing laws not only to enable immoral behaviour but crucially to disable any consequences if caught.

Personally I think it would be preferable to see a few hundred thousand young people spending their weekends marching to protest at the various thefts of democracy that are happening under Johnson, rather than causing pointless and risible mayhem on behalf of 'extinction rebellion' and other such soppy-bollocks tomfoolery.
But you can't have everything
It shows how weak flabby and clueless the national infrastructure has become. There may have been a time in the past when the 1922 committee would have elected someone to take the shitter out the back somewhere and shoot him. The tories have become so gormless all they want to be these days is star****ers (apart from a principled but ineffectual few).
Johnson is therefore likely to be with us until (hopefully) he is defenestrated at the next GE.

I’m sixty bloody two, so I’ve seen all sorts of political crap, and you are totally right.
I’m not a political person, I read manifesto’s and see both positives and negative’s with every party and try and vote accordingly. Hence why avoid posting on political threads, if one mentions a positive view of a particular policy, you will immediately be accused of supporting other loosely similar policies from the same political party. There’s no debate, you’re views on every subject are just politically labelled by idiots and anything you subsequently say is just referred back to your point you made being wrong in their eyes.
Serious political debate is dead in this country.

But why don’t we stand up to it? Why aren’t we marching against this utter destruction of everything I thought a modern forward looking country like us, should be.
Johnson has trampled all over everything I believed in about this country, and he couldn’t give a feck.
And we just sit there politely, awaiting the next general election (which is absolutely a fixed five year term, unless the government choose to do different.)
Why?
(certainly not aimed at you HWT, it’s a rant about politics in the UK and how people suck up to being fed utter shit and saying, it’s ok but they’ve tasted better. It’s better the shit you know, than that foreign muck kinda thing.)

You did indeed, apologies, I was on a rant after just reading your first paragraph.
On the other hand, I thought your comparison between marching for our democracy and your derision for soppy-bollocks tomfoolery is just plain odd in the context of this discussion.

It is a comparison between something worthwhile versus what the political yoof actually focus their attention upon. I am in favour of the former but shake my head sadly at the latter.

I’m sure we are in full agreement with your main point.
The subtleties of where the younger generation should direct their ire is a moot point and a valid discussion.
I’m just more pissed off with the fact that so many just moan on social media rather than get off their arses and actually protest. It’s their future, not ours.
