NATO's biggest shame was Dutch peacekeepers looking away at the "safe haven" of Srebrenica in 1995.

Mind you, technically that was the UN, but it seems in this thread that NATO means NATO country militaries

As long as the West keep up our show of strength and unity against Putin and ignore his threats he will not attack. Putin attacks weakness, not strength. Gets fine signed up to NATO. If he was stupid enough, the second he even blinks at a Nato nation, the Mongolian coast gets created.

What does that even mean?

Pretty obvious really. I’ve just thrown in some more history as that is the direction of the thread. Perhaps a little too sarcastic. Anti Americanism was the trendy world view of our generation so I shouldn’t have been surprised to see it being aired as whataboutery for Putin’s massacres and human rights abuses.

I don't think anyone was engaging in whataboutery but you can't have a discussion about geopolitics without mentioning the US's role as hegemon.

That doesn't excuse or even rationalise Putin's aggression. To paraphrase John Maynard Keynes, Putin is a madman in authority, who hears voices in the air, distilling his frenzy from some academic scribblers.

Few of his moves follow logic as we'd understand it.

I think that is all true but Putin himself has saught to justify his actions in rambling historical lectures. It comes down to whether we think this is relevant or not. The whataboutery on NATO is pretty explicit on this thread as it is in Putin’s speeches.

Looking more and more like this is happening.

The Swedish media has done a good job brainwashing the Swedish people into accepting this. The only ones reluctant are young men, those who will be sent abroad to die in some desert because American oil companies want more oil and money.

Embarrassing to be in some kind of alliance with the most destructive and bloodthirsty nations on this planet, like the US. Not to mention having some kind of comradery with Orban, Erdogan, Johnson and the senile ****er across the Atlantic. Pathetic.

Ashamed over how Sweden could sink so low but not surprised really.

Perhaps it is good that you appear to be an outlier. Your view was more rational when Putin was not acting like a madman. Russia's invasion of Ukraine requires everyone to adjust, not least those near or bordering Russia itself. Maybe a lot of Swedes prefer self-preservation against the perceived threat of Russia. America/NATO won't suddenly impose a government on the Swedes and neither will they invade Sweden.

Joining NATO doesn't mean your country will bring in conscription.

Well that is the message in the loudspeakers. A propaganda campaign playing on the fears of the average stupid idiot. It always works. People have "information" and "emotions", but are not capable of reasoning. They can always be tricked in any direction.

The sickness of paranoia is not a very attractive affliction.... maybe a trip to visit your beloved Soviet cousins rampaging and murdering across the Donbas may serve to retune your reality frequencies.

Get a grip for gawd's sake.

I'm not paranoid. I just don't want Sweden, or anyone else for that matter, to be in some sort of alliance with states such as the US and UK with centuries of committing needless greedy mass murders. I have no love for Russia either. All of these repulsive superpowers can go **** themselves as far as I'm concerned.

Hmmmm much like the Vikings and them plundering, raping, and committing mass murder for centuries too then.

Most nations have something in their past, we have all been under the yolk of another power, and most nations have committed murder and taken what is not theirs in the name, of god or country.

Yeah I'm not keen on vikings either.

Indeed most nations do, and its not just in the past but it is always ongoing. Our governments allowing big business to do whatever the **** they please is the main reason millions of children starve to death every year. The governments are selected and accepted by us, making us complicit. We're in no position to point any fingers anywhere.

Dissolve all nations.

I like this Graham Potter bloke. And a lot of people in general.

States, corporations, races, organisations, politicians? No, I don't like them.

I liked folks like Sankara and Lumumba, but your lot made sure they weren't allowed to make a difference.
