You can, and even 9th, but in very unlikely circumstances.
Requires English clubs to have won both Champions League and Europa League, and for neither to finish in the top 4 of the Premier League, and at least one of them in 6th or 7th. In that situation, top 3 plus the two cup holders get Champions League, 4th gets Europa League, 5th gets Europa League, if the FA Cup winner is otherwise qualified for Champions League, so will 6th place, unless that is Champions Leuge or Europa league title holders, then that would go to 7th, unless that was the other title holder, in which case it would go to 8th, if the league cup winner is already qualified for Champions League or Europa league, then 9th would get the conference spot.

More likely though is that two English clubs hold the major European titles, but just the Europa League holder finishes outside the top 4. If Man Utd had won their penalty shootout against Villareal in the UEL Final, they would have been CL qualified this season already, and finishing 5th in the PL would have pushed that usual 5th place Europa League spot to 6th, FA cup winners this season will be from top 4 so that Europa League spot would go to 7th, League cup winners Liverpool already have CL so the conference spot would have gone to 8th.
Spain "lost" their Conference League spot under pretty much the exact same cirumstances last season. Villarreal came in 7th (EUL place but won the Europa League, however nothing was given to the team in 8th placed team.

Yes, but this season it works as I have described, changes are afoot though and 5th may be an automatic CL spot in future if English clubs do well in the competition. Liverpool were admitted to the competition as holders, when there was no qualification for holders, and they changed the rules after to include holders and winners of Europa League, regardless of league position.
To finish top 7 and qualify for Europe you need a owners with very deep pockets and for them spend (and luck). More than likely the also runs of Man U, Spurs/Arse and West Ham will be pursued by the likes of Newcastle and Villa and possibly Wolves, Everton and Leicester. Finishing higher than some of them is obviously possible but finishing above all of them is very unlikely. Most likely, as far as points and position on the table, this is as good as it gets. Other than via a cup, I can't see Europe as ever being anything other than a dream.

No idea how Leeds featured in this thread I hate those dirty weeds. It seems a bit of a lottery entering Europe unless in the initial top spots. I actually think Brighton have as much chance of getting to Europe (qualifying) via the domestic cups as the league next season. I also believe pal@rse will never make it into Europe. I doubt Liverpool will ever not make it.

The quality will improve next year but its one thing having money / potential and being a big club. Its another having a nucleus of a very very good side and only being a couple of tweaks away from europe.
If we don't lose any players and Undav is all that then we will be well in the mix.
