Sportsmen generally are sensitive souls though, which is what this is about, especially when in a period of self-doubt or devoid of confidence. A golfer can inexplicably get the yips. One minute standing over putts believing they cannot miss, next minute they can barely move their arms with the hole seeming like the most unlikely destination for their ball.
So our players are undoubtedly riddled with self doubt at present in front of goal. We can all see it. We can discuss ad-infinitum the reasons for it, but nevertheless it's there. So while 'shoot' doesn't even register most of the time, in a time of goal scoring crisis, when your instincts are shot, you're passing when you should shoot, shooting when you should pass - hearing cries of 'shoot' probably in that moment makes it more difficult - because it has already become that way. I think this is all Potter was saying.
Like I didn't need Maupay to clap me back as he walked passed Saturday, I take no offense at what Potter has said either. It made sense to me at least, but then I don't have the knives out for him, so I guess I wouldn't jump on it.
So all we need is players like Phil Foden & KDB and we'll be sorted
Well if there's one thing Man City are renowned for it's not passing it about enough...

Some folks can’t wait to be ‘outraged’. Potter’s comments were mild, as are most of his utterances in public.
Maybe the crowd could shout "Pass, pass" and they wouldn't listen to that either and score a goal or two. It's worth a go..... huh?

This has been blown out of proportion so much and I love it. Up there with the great "Right to BOO" binfest of November 2021.
Let's set the scene...

Crowd: SHOOOOOT
GP: No Solly no ffs no no noooo!

Crowd: FCKIN SHOOOOOOOOOOT!!

I believe after 5 of these occurences, it's not the end of the world if Potter mentions that people shout shoot and it's not always helpful.
I also believe it's not the fan's job to applaud every failed, well-worked piece of sexy football which results in another defender getting his shins rattled. We're not shouting shoot because we want them to shoot. We're shouting it because we want a GOAL and a co-ordinated "FFS WHY CAN'T YOU JUST PUT THE THING IN THE NET LIKE YOU'RE PAID TO DO" isn't quite as easy or productive.

Maupay was absolutely dejected when he came off, yet some of our entitled supporers were 'offended' because he didn't do the Beckham clap
I find it strange that for a team that's managed by a masters in leadership and emotional intelligence that they seem to have drifted into lacking leadership and be emotional fragile.
If the "science" has been used on them it seems to have had the opposite effect.
