The PM will hope this all goes away and that by the time the second part comes out, people will have forgotten or will no longer care (see some people’s reaction to the Government’s horrific handling of the beginning of the pandemic for an example).

He must be odds on to survive for the foreseeable future now.

It now appears that the Sue Gray report should be published, in full, this week. The Met have said they have no objection to it being released. various takes on what sounds like an evolving situation. Reading between the lines of the journo tweets and #10 spokesperson, it sounds like #10 wants to hold back as much as they can and is trying to find a convenient excuse, but everyone else is moving towards full release.

That's exactly the way I read it. No 10 getting increasingly desperate and flailing around wildly looking to delay and obfuscate using any means possible, but with a fast dwindling group of supporters willing to get involved

It has become a Brexit thread, and this does concern me. All the while we’re unable to let go of Brexit, it is simplicity itself to paint those against the current regime as simply “sore losers”

There are a lot of totally valid criticisms of this government that deserve to be heard, and I fear we are scoring an own goal each time we allow ourselves to hark back to Brexit. A lesson we still don’t seem to have learnt is to not allow ourselves to be goaded into retreading that ground.

problem is the entire political climate in the UK right now revolves around Brexit and hence, most political debates lead back to that.

Without Brexit there is no Boris, his government is built on the divisive nationalism that it created and all goverment policy and political issues are dealt with from that angle. They had to clear out all the moderate Tories and replace them with Boris yes men, so when he lies they go along with it.

So unfortunately Brexit created Boris and this cess pit of a government, all the lies, corruption and contempt for the electorate all started from that acorn

He will be pushed rather than fall. The push could well be imminent. If it doesn't happen, as Andrew Bridgen said to WatO today, it'll cause even deeper long-term damage to the Tory Party.

Yes but what tangible prizes did 'you' win? I have never really had an answer to that. Boring or not to you, there are many of us who think we all 'lost'. Of course, we have moved on from the vote but experience the fall out every day. 'Move on' doesn't apply!

Back on track, we can begin to repair the reputation damage if not economic damage by getting rid of this dreadful PM....even many tories agree about that!

Quite possibly but I saw a fascinating take today on Sunak’s options. While he might have strong support among Conservative MPs, he might be less popular with the party membership, who are opposed to the tax rises that, rightly or wrongly, will be linked with him.

There is now an argument to be made that his best chance of heading off a Truss challenge is to hope Johnson is unseated immediately. This could provide Sunak an opportunity to refashion the narrative and brand the national insurance increase as being solely down to Johnson. He could then rescind the increase as his first action.

If he waits six months, the increases will take effect and it will be far harder for Sunak to disassociate himself from them.
