He’s had a lot of heart issues since he failed the medical before signing for us. It looks like he’s now going to have to retire after collapsing in a match earlier this season.

In the last 3.5 seasons he's played <1,700 minutes of football (i.e. less than 6 games/season on average) and is currently playing in the Austrian 2nd division.

We dodged a bullet.

You’ve got to feel for him but why would you carry on taking a massive risk every time you step on a football pitch. This is why I’m nervous about Eriksen returning to the Premier League and hoping we are not in for him.

Brentford according to Athletic

I thought he was nailed on for Newcastle

- Big name signing
- Totally ill suited to a relegation fight
- Massive wage
- Turn a blind eye to the heart problem

Surprised whoever is doing the pin sticking up there hasn't pulled their finger out.

Incident from the summer aside, his health record is excellent with pretty much no serious injuries in his career. I think it is safe to assume that he and his doctors are not "gambling" with his heart, so in that sense I dont think it is a gamble at all.

Doesnt strike me as a greedy guy however and I dont think the money will be the key in where he ends up.
"Incident aside", he didn't have heartburn Bjorn lol

So when Brentford play all eyes will be on Eriksen wondering whether he is going to drop dead.

This is supposed to be the best league in the world, it's so demanding we now have a mid-season break for tired players and yet Eriksen and his team think this is a good idea to resume his career after a couple of sedate seasons in Serie A.

I loved watching Eriksen play but I really wish he wasn't doing this.

He can study a few videos of Locadia or Agustein in the stripes to learn how to conserve energy and eliminate any possibility of straining the heart whilst getting paid a decent wage.

Why the face palm?

Seeing Eriksen clinically dead on a football field is one of the most harrowing things I've ever seen in football. None of us want to see that happen again.

Fabrice Muamba had a cardiac arrest in a Premier League match and 5 months later the doctors advised him to retire on medical grounds - rightly so. The same should have happened here, if not just for Eriksen then for fans in general.

Maybe his cardiologist has said it's safe for him to play? Rather than football fans making that conclusion on his behalf.

Eh?

Serie A is not the same league as 20 years ago.

Are you a doctor? Christian Eriksens doctor?

Plenty of people with zero medical insight advising Eriksen to retire from football when he as a professional sportsman have access to the best doctors on the planet. Hence the facepalm.

Fabrice Muamba did not receive treatment quickly enough compared to Eriksen. Eriksen was revived on the pitch, muamba was taken in an ambulance from WHL to Bethnal Green (some distance believe me). It's not really the same situation and recovery is very different because of it.

Presumably the same medical understanding, treatment and advice that applied to Muamba is being applied to Eriksen. The two cases are not necessarily the same, in fact its more likely they are different, if only slightly.

As you say, none of us want to see that happen again, and you would hope this isn't even being considered, if it was thought to be a risk.

In fact Eriksen may be less likely than another footballer to have a cardiac arrest on the pitch.

Only on NSC could you have posters insinuating they are more knowledgeable than top medical experts
