I walked from the Upper East as usual to the coach park but got mixed in with 5 Brighton yobs who pushed the police to their limit. The yobs, as that's what they were, were within a few metres of the Palace fans and 5 coppers, including a Sargent who knew quite a few swear words, just kept telling them to go away with slight nudges. My guess is it would be too much paperwork to arrest them but the yobs should feel very very lucky to get away with their behaviour and letting our name down. But it was good entertainment for us stood on the coach park hill watching it unfold for 15 minutes or so.

Add in loads from the East stand trying to walk down to the station not knowing there were barriers blocking the way. They then caused a big crowd that the folks leaving the North stand had to try and push their way through. As said before a steward with a loudhailer telling the East stand folks to turn round would have solved it or a couple of stewards stood outside East stand exits directing everyone round towards the south stand. Contrary to the club statement no one seemed to know what was going on for 10/15 minutes.

This wouldn't have worked because the south stand area was blocked by the Palace fans. Away fans are always released but then blocked by police. My guess is this puts a movable object in their way in case of problems rather than an immovable object like a shuuter which would cause a crush.

Or just stop pretending it kicks off like it used to in the 80’s everyone left together at Selhurst even after the McShane 1-0 nothing really happened total over reaction.

The number of people who would actually fight each other is tiny. There's a few who would do more shitty, cowardly stuff like chucking bottles or pyro.

I can remember coming out of Selhurst in the late 80s after a 3pm Sat kick off and walking back to Norwood Junction with actual proper fights kicking off everywhere.

These days I reckon the OB just need to justify the horses and sticks and Balkham absolutely loves being a Twitter star.

My recommendation:

No more evening Palace games at the Amex.

- All day drinking doesn't help pre-match.

- The pressure to get away from the stadium quickly to catch public transport at a late hour is in conflict with the "go round the stadium this way" strategy and any holding back of fans / barriers to allow Palace supporters to depart.

All of this.

I don’t remember many issues when we played them at the Amex and it was an early kick off.

Probably, then, the best way forward would be a Sunday 12.00 kick off - a repeat of our Paddy’s Day match of 2013, and the result. Pubs not open, everyone would have gone to church, arrived sober(ish) at the Amex, the scum would then be escorted back to their football special train at Falmer to return to their personal hell and the rest of us could then retire and celebrate three points when the pubs open. Sorted! :drink:

In my opinon the most eye-opening aspect of all this is the absurd club spin that all was fully-monitored-and-under-control sweetness and light on the night. It clearly was anything but. Couldn't even put out a burning flare / smoke bomb a couple of metres from where our penalty kick was about to be taken. Not the club's finest moment(s), even if they'll never admit it publicly Awaits chaileyjem to tell me and NSC otherwise

I didn’t say it was made up, I was in it having left the WSU / NS exit. My point was around apportioning blame when no one knows.

Apportioning blame without facts is a trait of the Sun, are you sure you don’t work for them ?

That’s what everyone on NSC and elsewhere has been doing over the Tory lockdown parties thing…..I don’t think anyone has a problem with it.

Who gives a fig what you and walk up fans think? I think you’ve mistaken Sky, BT, Amazon, clubs and the PL actually care?! Remember, football without fans is NOTHING…except when singing television deals worth billions….

Wouldn’t it have been easier to actually hold back the away fans properly INSIDE the stadium for 15-20 mins with the exits shut then none of this would have happened and clockwise / anti clockwise wouldn’t have been needed.

Happy to be corrected on my appalling stance on human rights obviously

Especially since they had a ‘special’ train to take them home for Horlicks before bedtime. I would keep them in for an hour though…. just for the humour.

This. Sussex and the Met get overly excited about this game way beyond common sense to the point we’ve now seen on several occasions they make matters significantly worse, from their advice and pre planning to execution on the day. The only difference they seem to make is to the match receipts, no doubt taking a healthily chunk off to pay for their incompetence. Friday night increasingly sounds like an investigation is required, not a generic meaningless corporate statement put out to placate nobody.

I’ve been saying this for several years. Bullying from sky is at odds with the policing requirements of this match. Money talks though and no-one in authority says a thing. Wasn’t the last game at the Amex before Covid a day time kick off against Palace ? I thought they had learned their lesson but clearly not.

Correct 12.30 ….we won’t talk about the score though

No facts ? I think you're a bit behind the times,

Johnson did deny they happened.

But then admitted they did happen but he didn't know about them, and he was just as angry about it as everyone else.

And then admitted he was in attendance but didn't realise they were parties and apologised.

I wasn't aware the fact there were parties is in dispute

Well, I didn’t actual mention no facts.
The conversation was about apportioning blame.
