I would ask for a reduction, I didn't even need to ask Sky got referred to retentions team and their offer was £6 cheaper a month than what I was paying

Phone and ask for the cancellation dept. Make sure it is this dept as they are the ones that can give the new discounted deal. Tell that that you don't wish to renew due to cost and don't let them try to downgrade your package. Stand firm, they will eventually offer you a new, better deal with probably and 18 month contract and an upgraded package. Also have a look at what Sky packages are out there and tell Virgin that you are thinking of switching to their service. They want to retain your custom, so the ball is in your court.

As a bit of extra, be prepared to cancel. If they don't give you a package you feel is acceptable they may call you back and offer much better. But that is only if you have truly considered leaving anyway.
