Apart from the weird 'history' thing, I just read it as the manager defending his young players, which is what I would have hoped he'd do. So fair play for that GP :clap2:

He hasn’t spit his dummy or ‘taken on the fans’…….he’s simply sent a message (in the heat of the moment after what would have been a frustrating end to the game) to the relatively few utter cretins in the crowd who thought booing that performance was a justified response.

It’s the fans that booed that should be regretting things said this morning, not Potter.

The more I've thought about this, the more annoyed I am about Potter's comments (which I understand also come from frustration) than I am with anyone booing. I would have loved him to have said something like:
"Oh it's not an issue. Fans have been booing nil nils since the year dot, I understand and share their frustration that we are struggling to score and haven't won in 9 games but I'm sure they appreciate the way we are playing and how far we've come. In any case, they've paid their money on a cold, wet and windy evening and I'm grateful for that."

I agree.

Totally acceptable reaction from GP.

I’m sure at some future point he will also say he understands why fans get frustrated and a small minority are vocal.

I am with potter on this. I still don’t understand who the boos were actually aimed at.

Potter? He has revolutionised how we play. Imagine that under hughton.
Bloom? For Not buying a striker? We have a business model that means we won’t pay over the odds. We could have bought someone like joelinton.
Maupay? He was taken off after an hour and worked very hard. Yes he missed some chances but how does booing help? Maybe he is supposed to think “ah crap. They are right. I should try harder to score”
The whole team? There was no lack of effort.

I genuinely don’t understand what the boos were meant to achieve. I have read the threads but still not sure. If we were not running or were picking clearly the wrong side or terrible formation etc then it would make sense.

I assume that many posters on here are being ironic when telling Potter to not be so sensitive.

When they themselves have got all over sensitive about a comment made immediately pre match and that he was directly asked about ….. he didn’t bring up the booing to rant about it, he was asked and so he responded.

Have to agree with him that despite the same frustrations in front of goal we never looked like losing the game and so why people felt the need to actually boo is beyond me.

Interesting criticism from a man who took Maupay off for Locadia, and man of the match off early.

TB

The young kid with blistering pace who was out for a year who’s recovery is clearly being carefully managed to hopefully prevent a relapse - that one?

We got back to The Bridge car park just in time to heat Graham Potter's post-match interview on SCR and I was quite surprised at hearing him bite back, just a little bit, when asked about the boos.

It stuck me as out of character for a man who, incident with Pep aside, always seem to be so in control of his emotions and how he expresses himself - never seeking to criticise, even where it seems obviously merited.

"I don’t understand the reaction at the end in the ground because I couldn’t be happier with what the guys did.

“Everyone’s entitled to their opinion. I completely disagree. I can only say I am really proud of my team, proud of the players, how they played against a tough opponent, created chances. You’ve got Tariq Lamptey, Jakob Moder - young players out there doing their best. Robert Sanchez in goal - a young player doing his best. Marc Cucurella I thought was fantastic, Leo Trossard - fantastic.

"But maybe I need a history lesson, maybe I need to understand where we’re at, because as far as I can see we’re 8th in the Premier League and the boys are giving everything, so we’ll carry on.”

Old git coming in peace, so hope I don’t get flamed too much 😂

Like many others on NSC I enjoy attending with my son, Harty Jnr, and the Father/Son Albion bond is something very special.

Last night was another one of those ‘watershed’ moments we’ve all endured/enjoyed over the years.

Every Albion manager I’ve watched since 1973 would have had criticism if they’d gone 2 months without a win, including playing arguably the worst two teams in the League and not scoring a goal in open play for 180 minutes, so wake up and smell the Mellow Birds GP, it’s not 31,000 comps, it’s hardworking men and women electing to spend their disposal income helping fund your employment.

Great to see Maupay starting, and it was my Sam that made the great point coming home, if a strikers getting chances, sooner or later he will convert, unless he’s saving him for West Ham?, why take him off?, especially in light of delivering the ultimate ‘kick in the nuts’ to Neal by replacing him with Locadia.

For me Locadia put in mind of when I saw Ashley Neal donned an Albion shirt in the mid 1990’s, he is so far out of his depth it’s almost embarrassing, I shudder to think how much we are paying him?

But the good thing is just things look really bad the Albion they pull out a result from nowhere, back in January 1990, us natives were getting restless, a huge demo was planned after the 3rd Round cup tie at home to Luton, and blow me we won 4-1 and we all went home happy to watch Jim’ll Fix It.

So don’t bet against us winning at the Hammers Wed 😂

Just to clarify your point here.............

It's OK for the manager ( earning thousands of pounds a week ) to vent his frustration " in the heat of the moment", but those who booed were " utter cretins" ( who actually PAY to watch the game ) for momentarily venting their frustration...?

OK then.

Lamptey is still getting back to full fitness and had signalled to the bench he was tired.

I really don’t see how anything Potter said after the match was unreasonable. He was “perplexed”, hardly ranting and raving.

I too was going to make the point that on the Radio Sussex thing he was only responding to a question about the booing. He didn’t initiate the subject, and his comments were, as usual, totally considered.

To play devil’s advocate; no win since September, no goal in open play since Liverpool (circa 270 minutes of football), 4 points from our last 5 games, games which saw us play Norwich, Newcastle, Villa and Leeds… when you add that all up, I’m not surprised by, even if I don’t condone, the reaction of some of the fans last night. Nor should Potter IMO. Our league position isn’t a true indicator of our form and if it wasn’t for other teams not playing to their potential, we’d be lower down the table.

Didn’t he make similar comments re fans expectations when we had won a solitary game at home in a calendar year?

I suspect that Potter is right with his history comment. Problem is that it gets taken on board by all fans, and those booing don’t give a damn. I can’t believe that those booing have been on the journey we have made over the past decades and have a clue about football - I don’t think I can remember us outplaying a team as convincingly as we did yesterday. Yes, disappointing not to get three points but we didn’t concede. Leeds fans must have thought it was Christmas getting away with a point and who can blame them having a sing song about it.
8th in the best league in the world - blimey!

I don't think they are booing because they think we should be higher than 8th, in fact I don't think League position has anything to do with it. I think the result of that specific match and the fact we didn't score has more to do with it. It isn't always about the bigger picture, just the reaction to what just happened.

I’ve never really warmed to him as I have other managers. His job is to win football matches not bore draw us to death.

I wasn’t bored, other than not scoring thought we were excellent, playing some of the best football I’ve ever seen this club play. An entertaining 0-0 if ever there was one. Very frustrated we didn’t score, but yesterday had absolutely nothing to do with how the manager set us up.

It's not out of character tbf, he's got previous for being a bit shirty about our support.

He has and when he does comes over as a bit of a tit. It's an insult to the Brighton fans to believe they aren't aware of where we are and also the fact he put a Sunday league player on.

It's obvious he doesn't take criticism very well and rarely in interviews takes responsibility for his decisions.
