Watching games on TV, especially Sky, I thought they already had extended to 30 minutes!

Actually the opposite - back in the Championship, live TV games always stick to the exact time to meet advert timings whereas non televised games often went a bit longer. Used to see loads of people miss the start of the second half of televised games as they were used to strolling out 16 or 17 minutes after the end of the first half. Watch a game live and you will see the TV bloke on the side-line give the ref the signal to start.

I still remember it being 10mins and you'd always hear "it's 20 to 5, the results are coming in".

Did it change around the end of the 80s? I remember when I played 10mins seemed long, long enough to start getting stiff and cold. Long enough for me to sometimes think "why am I here getting shouted out by an idiot who thinks he's Alex Bloody Ferguson in the freezing cold kicking a ball about on a muddy part frozen bog..."

And then there was always Baywatch to look forward to afterwards on ITV.

Of course you are correct.
I was merely talking about my impression as the adverts and pundits seem to go on for ages as opposed to the real match experience.

Absolutely brilliant idea. They should implement it at the Albion v Brentford fixture on Boxing Day evening. Just think, with an 8.00 o’clock kick-off halftime (with a couple of minutes added on time) would start at 8.47, add on the 25 minutes takes the time to 9.12 for the start of the second half. Allow a minimum of 4 minutes added on time means the final whistle will be blown at 10.01. By the time you exit the stadium, allow 10 minutes, it will be 10.11. Then, of course, everyone can catch the awaiting trains, buses and Park and Ride transport to wherever they need to go . . . . .

It could even be worse than that as it used to be the case (and for all I know still is) that the maximum 15 minute break didn't officially start until the ref returned to his dressing room.

Another crazy idea to suit the tv companies and the advertisers and **** the fans.

**** that. Would create a difficult situation for teams as well: you'd want your players to get all the rest they can get but if you take a 25 min break and then go out and play without warming up, injuries would increase.

Exactly - my first thought too. There's a genuine player safety issue.

Legs stiffen up as soon as you stop exercising. You'd have to spend 10 mins of that break on an exercise bike.

As much as I'd like a pie and pint at half time without going to the concourse on 43 mins, this is a very, very silly idea,
