Michael Carrick will now take charge of the team for forthcoming games, while the club looks to appoint an interim manager to the end of the season.

A number of Ferguson's ex players have gone into management. Have any of them been any good?

I can think of:

Ince, Bruce, Hughes, Robson, Giggs, both Nevilles, Scholes, Keane, OGS. I'm sure there must be others that I've forgotten. None of those have been very good.

Have others gone into management overseas and had success?

What is required from a manager changed since the Ferguson era and I think his old players have too many titles to believe that they can learn anything from anyone.

Seem to be some slight self-awareness though as most of them are very talkative these days with seemingly little intention to resume their "manager careers"... and talking is very easy.

I really, really want them to appoint Roy Keane.

Just imagine his team talks, and pressers,.

I know it won’t happen, but United should be made to do it.

Perhaps they should give all the players of that era a go on a two week rotation each, eventually ending up with Keith Gillespie. What could possibly go wrong?

Steve Bruce has surely had far more success than Hughes?

Depends on whether you consider three top-ten finishes with Stoke and one each with Man City and Fulham represent more success than three promotions to the Premier League with Birmingham and Hull.

Am I being too conspirational to think he used Man CIty to get a move to Utd, has unsettled the team by being a player that 'has to start' causing an imbalance in the team, and is now politicking to get the manager he wants turning Man Utd into the Ronaldo Show. Ole's barely out the door and we're already being told who Ronaldo wants.

Took them to 2nd place last season and turned around more games than any other team.

And sure that is some beautiful names on footballers but in reality its a bit more complicated than that. Ronaldo is great but causes as much as issues as he brings points to a team. Rashford is a little bit overrated. De Gea has been very average for a long while, even before OGS took over. Pogba was not particularly good under Mourinho and same goes under OGS. Clearly a player with a very high top capacity but I struggle to see anyone being able to keep him happy and motivated for more than short durations.

And then the big elephant in the room when it comes to Uniteds ambition: Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire, VNL and Obi-Wan Bissaka are not good enough for a club aiming to win the league at some point.

I 100% agree with everything you said there. However I get the impression that none of the Man United players like each other or have any sort of bond with one another.

It's a Manager's job to build a bond and a good work ethic that players become friends and work hard for each other. Mourhino was devicive in the dressing room. And Ole gives the impression of being too pally with the players to assert any authority.

Ole GS isn't a strong enough personality to rule over such big egos as the players at that club. The players are all high achievers elsewhere in their careers and they therefore need a high achiever Manager.

They also need to get rid of De Gea. He is the most overrated goalkeeper in the history of football.

He's built one of the most imbalanced squads in the league.

A plethora of attacking talent.
Bang average defenders.
And a Dutch bloke he refused to give any time to who, poetically, scored the last goal of the Ole reign.

He's spent so much money and done nothing. Absolutely nothing.

If the put the coach in charge of building the squad, its a warning sign that they are not doing recruitment professionally.

The silver lining being we're keeping him because we're now just as toothless away as we were under Hughton? Break out the champers.

I don't think we were as toothless under Hughton. We had Glenn Murray who sometimes nicked a winner for us against the run of play.

Otherwise we were often treated to heroic last ditch defending by Dunk and Duffy for 70% of the game.

We could easily lose one of our midfielders and play a striker who can actually get in the box and convert some of the crosses and passes that do actually get there.

Yesterday, if they reached the box there was usually no one there. More often, they were blocked.
As for corners, we need to rethink the tactics as they are so easy to defend.

As for corners, we don't need Gross to be taking them any more, arm in the air or not.
