I think that is season over for Hamilton.

When your flaps are open, ahem, the maximum gap allowed is 85mm. His gap has already been measured to be wider than that, and that’s a fact. It’s nigh on impossible for the stewards to turn a blind eye to that. He’s at the back of the sprint grid, and pretty much dead in the water.

What a sh1tty way for an exciting season to end.

Unless of course Merc can convince the stewards that, in touching the 44 car, Verstappen actually PUSHED the flap wider open than it would normally be in its automated opening phase, and Verstappen was the last one to touch the car before the measurements took place. Stranger things have happened.

No news on this then?

What can be the defence? That it’s the same wing that was checked last week, something broke or came loose, a fault etc? Don’t know. MV doesn’t look like he did anything enough to change the gap, but touching another car in parc ferme is a huge no no from karting competition onwards. Probably why it’s taking so long to deliberate, if it was a simple ‘larger than 85mm = penalty’ we would have heard by now…

I'm watching free practice at the moment. Still not been confirmed but Ted Kravitz is saying he's bang to rights and there will be a penalty of some kind and Merc likely to appeal because of Max's actions.

Seeing talk that Merc are snookered. They either accept that the wing failed the test. Or they try to claim that Max touching it caused it to fail ... at which point they fail a *different* rule about setup not being changeable without use of a tool.

Does Max not fit that description? :D

Cars can’t be touched in park ferme? [emoji2369]

Seems like overkill tho- see footage online of Vettel doing it in the past. He got no punishment.

Vettel was untouchable back in the day. He would run into the back of a car and blame them for being there.

Max given the equivalent of fine from his petty cash for touching Hamilton’s car - 50,000 euros

Thing is with the Vettel ones- they were probably post-race so any touching etc was less likely to raise concerns (I get that is still parc ferme - but a different nuance maybe)

Apparently Merc say the part was measured before the session and was fine, so I guess their case is that something happened during the session which compromised the part? Not sure that constitutes a defence.

Would be ideal to issue a decision before the Sprint which is 19.30 [emoji2369]

Well done Max on your first Championship title, take nothing away from him, he has excelled under pressure, especially after the contact incidents.
