I'd like to know how far above expectations they are performing. I imagine it's not akin to a team winning the Premier League in their first season.
From the betting history stats they were best priced 250/1 by UK bookmakers back in August to win the league, now they are hovering between about 4/1 and 5/1 with Club Brugge still the odds on favourites to win it.

Be interesting to see how he gets on. 9 goals and 5 assists so far from only 13 first division games are impressive stats. For comparison, Trossard’s last season at Genk saw him get 14 goals and 7 assists in 34 games.
I guess, like Mitouma, he’d have to play a full season in the first division before he could get a work permit though?

The good thing about Mitouma and this Vanzeir, if we are interested in him, getting international call ups is it becomes easier for them to get work permits. Depending on how they get on and how many games play they could qualify automatically as both Japan and Belgium are in the worlds top 50. We may not need to rely on the points based system which would be very dependent on how well USG do this season.
For Mitouma he'd need to play more than 60% of Japan's games over a two year period to automatically qualify but special dispensation would more than likely be granted if he reached that figure for the games Japan played between now and the end of the season due to the fact that he was effectively unavailable for games before his call up. If he didn't qualify automatically his international appearances would give him points towards the 15 needed under the points based system
For Vanzeir, if we were taking a look at him, Belgium are first in the Fifa rankings he'd only need to appear in 30% of games, again the special dispensation would apply taking into account the fact that he'd only just been called up. And again like Mitouma not reaching the automatic qualification criteria would still give him points.
An added bonus, as far as my understanding goes, is that international qualification is based on appearances on the pitch rather than minutes, so coming on with 30 seconds to go counts as much as playing the entire game (points awarded for club appearances are based on minutes played)

Am I missing something? I think you've embedded that tweet on the basis of Dante Vanzeir being included in the Belgian squad, whereas if you (or when I) look at that list, his name doesn't appear.

Surely you try and win the Belgian League and get Champions League football? Financially that takes the club to another level, then review in the summer. Mitoma needs to be delivering week in, week out in that league and he's not done that yet.

In the Belgian First Division A the winners are not guaranteed Champions League football. The top 4 sides enter into domestic play off, their points from the regular season are halved and rounded up, then they play each other home and away to decide the final 4 placings.
The winners of the playoffs get the Champions League group stage place.
2nd go to the 3rd qualifying round of the CL.
3rd go into the Europa League at the play-off round.
4th will be in the Conference League 3rd qualifying round.
Last season Club Brugge nearly blew the play offs, only winning 1 and drawing 3 of their 6 games, this meant they finished level on points with Genk who'd finished the regular season 4th. Brugge qualified as the tie breaker went down to regular season positioning. If Genk had beaten Anderlecht instead of drawing then they would have qualified automatically for the CL while Brugge would have had to go into the play-offs.

Has the joint Dutch/Belgian league been confirmed?
If it does eventually happen in a couple of years time USG are positioning themselves nicely to be involved.
