But that is what I dont understand as you gain ground for a few seconds but give away possession and they just come at you again but with the ball in their hands.

I guess it is ok if you are under severe pressure in your own 20 but once you are outside that area I think a very high ball that gives you or your team mates time to get to the ball when it comes down, and compete for it is what most kicks are intended to be, unless you are kicking for touch or to find space in the oppositions 20 and the put pressure on them.

I have to confess that I don't really understand why teams often hoof the ball straight to the opposition, but then I don't understand why players hang onto the ball on the ground right in front of their posts :shrug:

Rugby is a territory based game, whereas football is possession based. It better to have the ball in football regardless of where it is, it is better to have territory in rugby regardless of who has the ball. I think.

So if in the right area you are relying on a mistake to give you possession.

As the BBC seem intent on brainwashing us with the 6 nations perhaps somebody with knowledge should try to educate the likes of me who avoided rugby at school.
