I think I bought some towels there once.

I mainly used it as shorcut to get out of Churchill Square.

I used to go c1978 it just had a long metal rail to slide the tray along. My mother used to treat me on a Thursday to the under 12s Sausage and chips but as I was 11 I resented the fact it came on a paper plate with a train design only suitable for a three year old. I liked the sausage and chips though

 funny....

I only ever go into BHS in the lead up to Christmas, generally as part of my desperate "don't know what to buy" phase as they do always seem to have an extraordinary selection of Christmas gift tat.

exactly reason for my visits there in last 15 years, maybe for cheap cloths a decade ago. my mum and aunt used to meet in the Cafe then shop but i think they meet at a coffee shop and everything BHS sells is covered by Tesco/Asda superstores. lighting aside, they do have extensive lighting. cheap stuff can be found elsewhere, the tat can be found in copious quantity online or the superstores.

mostly shite, and to much of it
cafe useless now
good advert for private enterprise, could'nt run a p1ss-up in a brewery.
Oh and they have just opened a small supermarket at the one in Eastbourne
feel for the staff in all of them, and unless someone buy it out the government is going to have to step in and pay out the pension fund.
used to be Ok in the 70s/80s........................and maybe that was/is the problem ..........they are still there?

It's not the government that supports and pays out the pension fund. It is covered by the levy applied to all private pensions to cover events such as this.

As BHS enter administration, I find myself mulling who actually buys stuff in there. Not enough people, clearly, but there must still be some.

I only ever go into BHS in the lead up to Christmas, generally as part of my desperate "don't know what to buy" phase as they do always seem to have an extraordinary selection of Christmas gift tat.

I also recall, from my childhood, that they did seem to be the place my parents would go to for lighting. They had a wondrous lighting section. Must have cost a fortune in electricity to run. Do they still have this even?

Yes they still have a lighting section and yes we buy lighting there. Mrs Earle has been known to buy underwear and night attire there. Can't say I'm surprised they are going in to admin though. They seem to operate in a strange niche market that is shrinking in the uk.

When we bought our first house in Lancing in 1985, the first thing we did was go to BHS in Worthing to replace the horrible lights in the lounge.

We were served by the woman we bought the house from.

I think I've shopped in BHS once since then.
