Even though we just live a few miles down the road, Mrs H and I and a couple of friends spent the weekend in Brighton and stayed at the Hilton. What a wonderful time we had, the Regency pub for lunch (that's a little gem) a lovely walk along the front, on the pier bracing the wind and then up into the north laines to pick over the vintage stuff and have a few beers in the White Rabbit. Supper at Pinnochios - cheap and very cheerful - and then back to the Hilton (gauping at the extraordinary Saturday night time wild life) for a night cap. I love the Hilton, the beautiful faded charm, enormous family suite and a cracking breakfast all for £79. The weather today was fantastic and we got our Newcastle tickets and again, walked around enjoying the atmosphere. What a great city, I love where I live.

Arsenal lost and on the verge of losing one of the biggest bets I've ever placed, on the snooker (Shaun Murphy @ evens). I really am in the shit if he gets beat tonight (currently 5-3 down. First to ten frames).

Spring isn't too far away though I suppose.

We walked the dog this afternoon along the foot of the downs. Given that it is more than half way through the winter, the astonishing thing is how dry it was, under foot. We met a farmer friend, who expressed a real concern about a forthcoming drought.
