The court case seems to be moving on quite fast with the first defendant in the box today so perhaps Dunk will be available not the best choice but better than somebody playing out of position.

Voetbal International - Groningen negeert ook tweede bod Brighton op Van Dijk

Groningen also ignores second bid in Brighton Van Dijk
28/01/2013 15:24

FC Groningen on Monday a second written bid for defender Virgil van Dijk (21) rejected. Championship club Brighton & Hove Albion did two weeks ago in a bid for the defender, but that was the Groningers resolutely rejected. Following Saturday all telephone bid was received by the manager of Van Dijk, followed Monday an improved offer. Again it was FC Groningen resolutely. "We thank them for the offer and indicated that Virgil in principle not leave this winter," commented managing director Hans Nijland against Voetbal International. 'If it were up to us they will not come back with a new bid. " FC Groningen showed earlier that there is no financial need for the defender to leave. Van Dijk is until the summer of 2015 under contract Euroborg this season and is one of the most constant factors. Only with an exceptional offer is there to talk about a departure. Knowing the Dutch, he'd only have set them all off arguing with each other in the changing room. We don't need that.

Breaking news Albion have second bid for Dutch defender turned down
2:50pm Monday 28th January 2013 in Albion By Andy Naylor
Albion have had a second offer for Dutch under-21 international centre-half Virgil van Dijk rejected by his club Groningen.

Seagulls made the bid today after manager Gus Poyet flew to Holland to watch van Dijk in action yesterday.

But their increased offer is still not enough to persuade Groningen to sell.

Hans Nijland, Groningen's general manager, revealed to The Argus: “Brighton have made another offer today but we have rejected it.

“We've had two serious offers from them but not an offer that makes us think we should do a deal now.

“We do not want to sell Virgil in the window (January) because we need him too much.

“He is a key player in our team. We are struggling and we need him for the rest of the season.”

Albion are desperate to sign a centre-half before Thursday night's transfer deadline after captain Gordon Greer was injured in Saturday's FA Cup defeat against Arsenal.

So basically we know he is going sooner rather then later, we have him till 2015, so if you want him pay up. I wonder how the Dutch club is financially?
