Has anyone been?

Never been to Portugal myself but the new girl i'm seeing has a family place out there so heading over in August. The actual place is called Olhos De Agua but think that's a small village.

is so any advice on decent restaurants or tips. Googled and found a decent waterpark and some nice looking beaches.

Olhos De Agua is Albufuera and not Villamoura. Villamoura is about 10 miles along the coast towards the airport. Olhos De Agua is a lovely little village but small. Albufuera is a kiss me quick, all day breakfast kinda place. Villamoura is a golfing resort which has grown and grown over the years to a full on holiday resort. The marina is lovely and it has some brilliant golf courses. Decent casino at the top end if you're into that kind of thing? If you are on a budget have a wander round the marina (and the streets back from it) and you'll be able to do a decent pub crawl at happy hour prices. As others have said it's not massively expensive out there anyway.

Thanks for that. I was going purely by looking at a map and it looked like olhas de agua was pretty much centre between the two towns-would it be similar price in a taxi you reckon? Must admit villamoura looks more attractive that albu if I'm honest.
Conflicting reports on prices but must be same as anywhere and if you find the right place it will be cheap-not on a budget really so will explore!

I went once when I was 19, 7 years ago now. Stayed at Prado do Golf which is about a 15-30 minute walk from the Marina, went to the Casino one night and went to a lovely restaurant too in the town, had the Seafood Cataplana, was this huge bowl thing on wheels that they wheeled to the table, was basically a massive fish stew with mussels and crab and lobster and loads of other fishy stuff in there. Was about 80 Euros between the two of us for that alone but it was well worth it. I think that's their main food over there.

I'd definitely go back to that area again. Did a boat trip as well and saw some caves on the coast, memory isn't as good as what it was but I recall it was worth the money.

Some very good fish/seafood restaurants around the marina if you like that kind of thing. Also, golf. Some amazing courses if you're a golfer (I'm not, but I used to write stuff for holiday brochures about them #expert).

You can walk to Albufera from Olhos De Agua if you are that way inclined, will take about an hour. Vilamoura is about 10 miles in the other direction so I wouldn't fancy walking that. Plenty of taxis about though will be around €20 at a guess. Taxi in to Albufera will be less than €10 I'd say. There is also a bus service which is actually pretty decent (air conditioned coach) and is only about €5 between the two. Getting a taxi in Albufera very late (2/3am) can be a nightmare. Never had a problem in Vilamoura (if there are none on the ramp walk over to the casino and you'll get one from there).

As you say it's like anywhere you can eat and drink as cheaply or as expensively as you like. If you like fish and fancy a more expensive night out there is a restaurant in the Marina who's name I can't remember (proper Judith Chalmers me!) but it's next to Figos and before you get to the cow in the corner (you'll know what I mean when you see it) with black and white interior. Certainly not the cheapest place but probably one of the best IMO. If you want cheaper go a street or two back away from the Marina.

If you are going to play golf book it through an agent before you go as the green fees to rock up and play are crazy money! You can't really go wrong as all of the courses are brilliant, I've played Pin Hal, Old Course, Victoria, Vila Sol, Laguna and they are all a very good standard.
