If it works as intended, it will be everywhere. Similar to how the automated offside call-thing from the World Cup will be in every league by next season.

It’s a start, but at this stage it’s only the final decision, none of the discussion or reason why the ref has been sent the review it on screen. Hopefully that will come in due course.

It's gotta be better than running over to a screen, then playing charades.
The charades aspect has been part of football for over a century without issue. No one was completely clueless* about a refereeing decision until VAR came along, now everyone wants everything spoonfed.

*Yes, decisions have been contested, but we always were able to work out the ref had given a foul/handball/offside from his gesticulation. And that's all that's really important in the moment. If he's wrong, if we disagree with it, it means nothing. The game is played in accordance with what the ref has decided, not what we think it should have been.

At the end of my tether
I don’t like this line
“to increase the degree of automation in the years to come.”
Football is a game played by men at speed , a slide rule automated decision is not always appropriate. If the human eye cannot see it, then it did not happen. What happened to a ref’s judgement?
It certainly won’t stop arguments.

Dont know if that will solve anything but will in many cases confirm why a crap decision is made. All the time decisions like Rashford goal allowed no hope. Surely clubs are not happy for all these penalties given just for ball hitting arm and want rule changed

VAR in its current form should be scrapped.

Change it to.......VAR officials can only view video in real time, not slo mo. No drawing lines on the pitch. Have 15 seconds to make a decision. If they don't gasp out loud at the incredibly clear and obvious error then match has been appropriately refereed by the on pitch officials.

This way we will have just a handful of VAR interjections in a season and will understand and almost certainly agree with them.

And then, yes, communication for VAR decisions should be made to the crowd.

Could you imagine Mike Dean furthering his image by doing the proposed VAR decision, had he been still referring.

I think the automated offside cameras will be a good step forward for league matches. Seems to be working well in the Champions league and as Qatar showed, is a huge improvement on the current system where you could get ridiculous situation and wait for up to 4 minutes after the ball is in the net before feeling like you can celebrate or the game can continue - technology won’t get rid of the ‘he was a millimetre offside!’ frustrations but at least there will be consistency and I think that’s all fans and players want, a decision making process that is seen to be prompt, just and impartial.

Re the Communication of decisions after reviews

Cant see that this will make much difference tbh it’s a start but not enough to prevent the controversy surrounding VAR decisions - The lack of transparency in VARs decision-making process is a major issue - justice must be seen to be done IMO - sharing at least the rationale for VAR decisions via Ref is an improvement but it needs to go further.

Why not have a screen share link from the VAR office screens onto the big stadium screens as they watch playbacks in real time from every angle - there’s no need to draw what often look like arbitrarily placed lines all over the screen, we don’t need to be privvy to discussions either but at least give 40-80,000 football fans around the stadium the courtesy of seeing the replays before a decision is made and not just a replay if the decision was overturned so they have an opportunity to at least acknowledge the decision-making process by the VAR refs was a fair one and based on what most reasonable people would be able see if looking at screen playbacks from several angles. (Angles that are often not captured by TV cameras, shown in the post-decision replays on the big screens or visible from your viewpoint in the stadium.)

This actually completely turned around public perception of DRS in cricket when they did that. That and putting it on the screens.
