If the agents or social media run the show on either of those transfers then Cucurella would have joined City for about £30 million and Caicedo would have gone to Arsenal in the January transfer window.

I’m guessing as they had the ability to turn this offer down we’d staggered the payments slightly. Absolutely mental of them to turn that down then.

That's on the agent and the player though. Social media is just a way of reporting and discussing the news that the player is refusing to play. Those players may have tried to force moves by not playing/training but ultimately the club held strong and got the best deals possible.
it's incredibly unlikely to happen in this transfer though, the player is saying he doesn't want the release clause activated as he'd rather Boca get potentially more money with a traditional transfer deal. He seems to really value his time at Boca and nothing being reported makes him look like the sort that would rock the boat to force a move.

All reports I’ve seen are that he wants a move in this window.. He only refused in the summer - after interest and a bid (I think) - because he wanted to stay and play in the Copa tournament.
Brian Owen confirmed he remains of “interest” to the Albion in the Argus this morning.

Yes he wants the move in this window but he wants to do right by Boca too. He’s from Buenos Aires, probably grew up supporting Boca and has been with them since he was 9. It seems as though he wants them to get the best deal possible and doesn’t want to activate the release clause, that doesn’t strike me as someone who is likely to rock the boat.

Triggering his release clause may mean the player loses out in this case. But who knows
