My children especially the female and her friends/work colleges do not feel safe around that area so don't go near it. It does not make them wrong.

The Level has been completely transformed and is nothing like your friends are describing now.

It seems another massive issue is the non EU migrants who're costing us billions every year as many of those are getting benefits and rarely work.

There are at least two others on this thread whom you're ignoring who - like me - visit the park reasonably frequently and enjoy being there. Why don't you value their opinion either?

Yes thanks, by what most people term as ethnic though I would say less than 3%(non-white). But still a near 10% explains the housing crisis, they will never be able to build enough poperties. Its unsustainable.

cleaning contracts private
overspill operations to private hospitals
and if you live in Eastbourne the closing of loads of departments there and transferred to the Conquest at Hastings

If so then it was dark, dingy and full of drunks and drug addicts. The transformation is quite something and it is that very reason that shows your children haven't been there since the old days.

It was ok in the 70' so not aware of it 'recent past', I guess it's a case of mud sticks so once it's got a reputation it's difficult for the area to gain back any credibility, is London Road being right next to it now ok then, that used to be a area for drug users to congregate.

Here's a challenge. I'd like people to give some thought to this question and name a single public open space anywhere in England that is as popular with families and as well used by folk of all ages as The Level.

London Road is 'OK'. The trendy North Laine is gradually working it's way up York Place but London Road is still inhabited by crap chav shops such as pound shops and charity shops. Some nice bars have popped up recently and more should happen now the students have started to move into the old Co-Op. The Open Market is OK but doesn't have the life or the size of the old one. Personally I think it needs pedestrianisation but I don't know what they would do with the buses.

Now I bet this post will shock [MENTION=257]The Large One[/MENTION] because apparently I'm a moaning tosser !!!

Obviously. The question that arises is whether this realisation will sweep UKIP to power or - as has happened previously with UK political parties founded on racism - the bubble will burst.

The point I was making, as you well know, is that there are undoubtedly people voting UKIP who are racist , ( whatever that means, as the word is now banded about all too frequently) but that the vast majority of folk who vote for them are NOT -simply fearful of the future if what they perceive as excessive immigration is not checked. You always avoid this bit! By the way, I suspect that there are "racists" in all parties, and the same applies here -the majority are not and prefer a code of live and let live.

I very much doubt The Level gets as many visitors as Stanmer. That said, The Level is very good.

over 10 years ago but it must still be the main walking path between Lewes Road and London Road and I can tell you a lot of the drunks have emigrated to Eastbourne.
if I was going for a family day out it would always be Stanmer every time
