All I know was what was said on the telly. But, driving down from York to the game yesterday, we saw a convoy of about six coaches being given a police escort up the M1. Maybe they were anticipating trouble.

It's a shame ITV didn;t mention the fact that a police horse had to be put down outside of Elland Road as well, just to add to it.

But yes, there was lots of trouble. Cardiff fans were kept in the ground until half past five because there were 1000+ plus Leeds fans waiting outside for them. The only thing the police got right yesterday was keeping them locked in.

I don't condone violence and I run a mile, but there are too many people at Leeds who will never forgive or forget Cardiff for the turks carrying knives, or for covering Leeds fans in piss (children as well), or for throwing bricks at the kids. And yes I realise that not every Cardiff fan is in on that or condones it but the ones that do ruin it for the others. There are Leeds fans who want payback.

But yes, they did attack the coaches, hid on the roundabouts to launch bricks/stones at their coaches.

West Yorkshire Police yet again screwed up, tried to get us to walk down teh m621 - hello dumb skull it is a motorway.

Two. One with a minor back injury the other was a clueless idiot on a police horse who tried to charge Leeds fans but failed to see there was a car behind the fans and the horse went into theat and rolled causing the idiot officer to fall off and the horse to charge around Beeston.

I hope there won't be too many Leeds 'boys' looking for a bit of payback after what our lot did to them in the Pump House.

Small fry, I know, but could still do without it.

Agree. I am told old to get involved in any of that these days. (not that I ever did when I was younger). I just want to go to the game, have a few beers, enjoy the game win lose or draw, then get home safely.

No Cardiff fan had been allowed to travel independently, with all match tickets handed out at a secret location 10 miles from Elland Road to only those supporters who had made their way on official coaches.

Sounds like a proper rave up.

Naughty Leeds fans clash with police

Story by Michael Morris
16 January 2005

With City fans safely contained inside the Elland Rd stadium the Leeds hooligans turned on the police for their kicks.

Mounted officers were injured and at least one horse bolted after Leeds Utd fans clashed with police after yesterdays game with Cardiff City.

Believe me when I say that this time there was no Cardiff involvement in the violence between the home supporters and the police.

City fans were contained inside Elland Rd for almost 50 mins after the game and then we were all shown directly to our coaches for the escort from the ground out onto the M62 and M1. As the Bluebird supporters waited patiently inside the ground outside it was a different matter. Home fans were hoping to ambush the travelling Bluebirds and ended up fighting the local law enforcement.

10 Leeds supporters were arrested.

"At the conclusion of the match the Cardiff supporters were detained inside the ground with a view to their own safety, and they behaved extremely well.

"Unfortunately after making their way to the waiting coaches, Leeds supporters attacked police officers, with two sustaining minor injuries," said a West Yorkshire Police spokesman.

"One injured his back after being pulled from his horse which bolted, but fortunately was retrieved, while another injured his leg.

"There were 10 arrests for public order offences."

All Cardiff fans were bussed into Elland Rd for the match that ended 1 - 1. In total 26 coaches containing over 1300 City fans met up at a service station on the M1 before being taken to Leeds in three waves. On arrival into a secure compound the fans were directed to the turnstiles and into the corner section of Elland Rd. There were no Cardiff fans mingling with home supporters.

The Yorkshire police did an excellent job and while the level of officers at times appeared over the top it meant myself and my two young children were safe at all times.

Is this the groundhog day thread, or did you post that already?

Let's not let fact get in the way of a good story the idiot fell off his horse. He was not pulled from his horse, he tried to charge Leeds fans, ran into a car the horse rolled fell on the police officer and then bolted.

*it meant myself and my two young children were safe at all times.* It's a shame they don't treat leeds fans the same as them. Our kids are fair game to them.

Mike probably took his version of events from the BBC website, report copied below:

Police hurt in soccer yob attack

Two police officers were injured when they were attacked by Leeds United fans outside the club's ground on Saturday.

One of the policemen was dragged from his horse as hooligans went on the rampage after United's match with Cardiff City at Elland Road.

The mounted officer suffered a back injury and one of his colleagues suffered a blow to his leg.

A police spokesman said 10 fans were arrested, all of whom are thought to be Leeds United supporters.

He added that Cardiff City fans were not involved in the trouble and had behaved "impeccably" before and after the match, which ended 1-1.

The police came under attack after they kept the Cardiff City fans locked in the ground at the end of the game, as a conventional safety procedure.

West Yorkshire Police believe the hooligans vented their anger at officers for denying them the chance to "get at" the Welsh side's fans.

The two sets of fans clashed during an FA Cup tie at Cardiff's Ninian Park ground three years ago, when riot police had to hold back rival factions after the City fans invaded the pitch.

A force spokesman said: "There was no pre-match disorder. At the conclusion of the match the Cardiff City supporters were retained at the ground and were observed to behave impeccably.

"Unfortunately the Leeds supporters attacked police officers outside the ground which resulted in two officers suffering minor injuries - one as a result of being pulled from the horse. The horse bolted and was retrieved a short distance away.

"A total of 10 arrests were made in the ensuing disorder."

Aye, bbc always tell the truth!

I think someone from Leeds Utd has already factually put them correct.
