just wondering how much the train is? and if it would be better to book online or just get a ticket at the station.

Yes, generally it is cheaper online. How much? Depends if you're coming from Brighton or Bognor or Bolton or.Bristol or.....well, you get the drift. Depending on the time of day, booked online, etc etc, the fares vary, wherever you board.

Working out your way to Croydon/Selhurst/Norwood Junction isn't the greatest challenge in the World.
