Worthing
Just reading The Sun's report on the Third Round summary, where I found this paragraph regarding our tie:

Portsmouth lost 3-1 to Brighton after having striker Dave Kitson sent off for violent conduct, the League One leaders getting goals through Chris Wood, an Anthony Barnes penalty and Francisco Sandaza.

Just shows how much care they put into researching the lower league team's games. Also appears to be a news story for every other Third Round tie, except ours on there, wondered as to why exactly?

Anyone who reads The Sunday Times will also have spotted that the photo (Page 5, Sport section) showing the players celebrating Chris Wood's opening goal wrongly identifies ADAM EL ABD as Chris Wood:dunce:

Sheesh ...

Think it was on the mail website they had a picture of Barnes taking his pen with the caption 'Glenn Murray scores from the spot' or something similar

The Sun is total shit, what do you expect?

It is the correct answer.

The pinko museli munchers managed a rather better report:

Chris Wood sets up dominant Brighton win against 10-man Portsmouth | Football | The Guardian

It says much about the trajectories of these clubs that this result barely registered as a shock. Though Gus Poyet had attempted to suggest otherwise in the build-up, Brighton came into this tie as favourites and they left it with faith reaffirmed that they are a club on the rise.

Brighton have come a long way from the nadir of the late 1990s, when twice they came within one place of dropping out of the league. They were in the Championship as recently as 2006, but there has rarely been such an air of expectation around the club. They are four points clear at the top of League One with a game in hand and next season will see them break the shackles of the Withdean, affectionately known as "the Theatre of Trees" by some, and take up residence in impressive surroundings at Falmer.

In Poyet they have a manager with considerable talent, a clear plan and no little confidence in his players. The early sending off of Portsmouth's Dave Kitson certainly helped them, but the Uruguyan's self-belief was evident after the match, when he spoke ruefully about missing out on the opportunity of testing his team against Championship opposition at full strength.

"To be totally honest, the idea was to play 11 v 11 for 90 minutes to see where we are," he said. "To see if we could compete with and beat a Championship club in a beautiful competition. Football sometimes gives you some surprises. A few weeks ago it was us down to 10 men, today it was the opposition. We adapted well and totally deserved to win the game."

Brighton's recent record in the third tier – the last four seasons saw them finish 18th, 7th, 16th and 13th – might demand caution but this performance, in swatting aside Pompey, should only serve to stoke their appetite. Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes gave the home side a deserved half-time lead and Fran Sandaza calmed any nerves that had been jangled by Tom Kilbey's late consolation for the visitors.

"It's a big scalp, hopefully what we're going to come up against next season," said Wood, the striker on loan from West Bromwich Albion. "We dominated from start to finish. It was hectic, rough, but we just had to take a step back and play our own game."

Portsmouth could name only four substitutes for a match that served as another jolting reminder of how far and how quickly the 2008 FA Cup winners and 2010 finalists have fallen.

Yesterday's Mirror had our round badge on both the scores page and on the report. That must be 20 years out of date

Well, in my place of work yesterday I happened to be sitting next to the Action Images photographer who was at Withdean on Saturday. And I'm happy to report his pictures, which I was looking through, are bloody great. A fine day's work from the boy. I particularly liked the Barnes penalty and celebration, the Sandaza celebration, a nice wide-angle shot of the ground taken from up by the TV tower, and of course Kitson trooping off the pitch. Quite literally marvellous scenes.

Interesting quote:-

"It's a big scalp, hopefully what we're going to come up against next season," said Wood, the striker on loan from West Bromwich Albion.

Does he know something we don't planning for next season?

Anyone else agree that there would probably have been more of a report if Pompey had beaten us?
